I don't know who Dick Cavett is. Before my time. I only caught the tail end of Johnny Carson before Leno took over. Letterman was great during the Late Night NBC era. He was doing a lot more publicity stunts, and weird conceptual ideas for shows. But he toned himself down over time on his CBS Late Show. Conan was really strong on Late Night too. Lots of weird irrelevant sketches, Carl 'Oldie' Olsen (Letterman had Larry Bud Melman), Pimpbot 5000, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, etc. Also Andy Richter was a great sidekick. Seth Myers shouldn't even be lumped in with the others because they at least had a high point in their careers. Fucker was an SNL writer and that's it. They gave him the Late Night job due to cronyism and because Conan was a writer turned talk show star they tried to ape the results. Guy was a personality vaccum even as the host of Weekend Update, and sucked so bad he had to be paired with Amy Poehler to make up for it.
