>make a film ostensibly to criticize and satirize the greed, avarice and hedonism of Wall Street brokers (and, more broadly, American capitalists)
>entire movie consists of the scumbag con artist going on a fun, wild ride with sex, drugs, and partying
>con artist protagonist faces no significant consequences for his crimes and the film's ending strongly implies that it was a waste of time to even prosecute him
literally what the fuck did Scorsese mean by this

goes to show that the average film watcher is just self-inserting as the main character instead of extracting knowledge. nobody cares about the law until it's their turn to deal with it.

But the film literally doesn't depict anything about his lifestyle as bad or negative or unattractive. He parties and has sex with 10/10 smokeshows, does wacky drugs that don't kill him, gets high-end escorts to eat caviar off his balls, runs around in mansions, makes it rain with hundred dollar bills, and then ends it all without any regrets or a care in the world.

Given that we are ONLY following his perspective in this movie (and not that of any of his victims), then the audience has no choice but to see Scorsese's intent as a glamorization of the worst sort of scumsucking parasites our society has to offer.

so you watched the movie and somehow missed the part where his lifestyle was funded by defrauding poor people of what little money they had? granted, the only reason law enforcement got involved was because some rich cunts got took as well. The ultimate point was jordan belfort wasn't a singular case, he just wasn't part of the elite, thus the law was allowed to go after him, and the law can only pursue certain outlier cases, occasionally, because they're kept on an extremely tight funding leash controlled by those they should be prosecuting.

he goes to prison while he has a young daughter, he doesn't have a care in the world because he's not really a man. if you want to be a boy your whole life then the people who are supposed to respect you won't.

I'm referring to his family, he screwed that up just about as badly as he could have. his only friends in the end are the dorks who come to his presentations.
