never watched this before, is it kino?
>>212878808 (OP)it actually is. great cast, soundtrack, car. its got all the right ingredients
>>212878808 (OP)Yes it’s the definitive Batman movie and has a good aesthetic
no. anybody who is telling you it is are just gen-x guys who grew up with it so in their mind, it’s perfect. it isn’t. bruce wayne is sidelined in his own movie by jack nicholson, who gives a great performance but the character is retardedly written. the joker in this movie is just some generic gangster until he falls into chemicals and gets facial reconstructive surgery and all of a sudden decides to become obsessed with the clown aesthetic. we’re supposed to believe that the 5’6’’ receding hairline-having michael keaton is supposed to be the ultimate playboy and we’re also supposed to believe he’s the scariest creature of the night you’ll ever come across despite his mask not fitting his face at all and disabling him from turning his head. it is a deeply flawed and stupid movie.
batman returns? that’s kino.
>>212878989i forgot to mention the horrific prince music and the annoying as fuck alexander knox character who takes up way too much screentime. vicki vale’s screams also make your ears bleed. what a piece of shit.
>>212878821>>212878833>>212878843>>212878923thanks, i wasn't even alive when this movie came out
>>212879059i wasn’t either but i’m telling you, batman returns is way better. i guarantee you’ll like it more than 89.
>>212879088think i'll watch both back to back as they are sequels to each other, correct?
Bruce isn't tortured enough in this
kino elfman score

>>212879158yes. i would even say batman forever is better than 89 even though that movie is extremely flawed as well. batman & robin is only good for getting drunk and watching it with friends to make fun of.
>>212879293>batman forever is better than 89someone get this hothead out of here
>Batman Begins came out closer to Batman '89 than to The Batman
>The Dark Knight came out closer to Batman Returns than the present day
>>212878808 (OP)It’s literally one of the greatest comic book film adaptions ever. Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson destroy everything.
>>212878808 (OP)it depends if you want to get nuts or not
>>212879388this is why we need the original joel schumacher director’s cut released. everyone who’s seen it says it’s excellent.
>>212878989Batman isnt some scary creature of the night, hes a retard who walks into gunfire in.the first scene. Burton seems to think bats superpower is kevlar cause he gets shot again later on
>>212879636how do you not love the “not a friend, a partner” scene?
>>212879636I kinda agree because they both suck but 89 is also boring
>>212879649So, he put his own spin on it. So what? It worked phenomenally. Look at what Hollywood does these days. What Burton did was absolute peanuts compared to the insane liberties being taken today.
>>212878808 (OP)Very, very kino. The great thing is, if you like it, you can watch the sequel with the greatest Penguin and greatest Catwoman ever.
>>212879238The Prince tie-in album is better.
It's a pretty good superhero movie, and an AMAZING aesthetic display, but kind of a bad adaptation. Besides Batman having no compunction against killing people (including atomizing an entire factory full of goons), there's him throwing away his secret identity for a woman he barely knew, Joker being the man who killed the Wayne's, odd characters like Knox and Grissom that could have been established book characters, very little actual gadget use (maybe 5 "wonderful toys" in all) and there being no clear plot on the part of the villain.
Returns is like the first one ate a super mushroom. An excellent movie, the MOST pure and beautiful example of Burton's vision, and a TERRIBLE Batman story. Bats is now gleefully killing people, whatever going on with Mac Shreck is a mess, and Catwoman and Penguin may as well be completely new characters. And to this day, I'm still really uncertain what any of the villains goals were, in the end.
All of that aside, they're still great watches, and the vehicle design for everything Batman pilots in these films is unmatched, including the Bat-Torpedo.
Pretty neat "modern" trailer. Movie would still hold up if it were to be released today.

>>212878808 (OP)PURE. KINO. Don’t listen to the other faggots in here who say it’s boring.
>>212879055>>212880048>>212879923Lol I'm a big, BIG Prince fan and even i think it was a total mismatch that Burton wasnt even interested in and got forced on him by the studio.
I did like that Prince identified the duality of Batman and the Joker and created the character "Gemini" for batdance cllip etc it was an interesting take but the album is totally forgettable and only a couple of the songs really feature in the movie.
>>212879967>Besides Batman having no compunction against killing peopleIt's called character development.
>>212880112Yeah you have to remember the last time Batman was on screen before '89 it was Adam West.
>>212880210>it was a total mismatch that Burton wasnt even interested into me that's the charm of batman '89. you have burton's dark whimsy but it's not overwhelming, you have the commercial impulses of a big-budget cheesy '80s movie, you have the influence of the comics themselves. it's a weird, janky movie.
>>212880063Next time I'll drop her out a higher window. Til then I got BIGGA FISH TA FRY
>>212878808 (OP)If Val Kilmer was the Batman instead of Michael Keaton this movie would be perferct 10/10.
It is still an 8/10 though. Keaton's manletness bothers me a lot I admit it. Nonetheless, the aesthetic is top tier.
>>212879293Forever has its own problems, it lacks the art direction of 89, and it becomes a comedy whenever Carrey is onscreen, but it tells an 'ensemble drama' more successfully, because Burton's characters are all one-note manic-depressives. Still, both are better than just watching plain old depressives in 'The Batman'.
>>212880328yeah i guess it was long before the superhero, paint by number, movies became prevalent and is certainly an oddity of its time as they just threw everything they had at a project like this and I can understand its appeal, i still remember it fondly but i was also a child at the time too.
>>212880210Worth it just for the Batdance video. That shit is amazing
