For fuck's sake keep Nolan away from Homeric epics. He can turn something like Greek mythology into soulless cold slop.

I missed the gods not being in the Troy movie. But I guess they were trying to focus on the human drama. I can't imagine a film of The Oydessy with the gods and monsters. To do that, they would simply be trying to make a boat kino film about a dude trying to sail home.

The Odyssey isn't good material to make a movie from. There's only like four cinematic scenes in the entire story. There's years-long time skips where Odysseus lives on an island and has a kid with another lady. There's no way in fuck to stage the suitors in a way that makes sense to a modern audience.
This is a bad idea, worse than that Troy movie where they tried to see how shitty Brad Pitt was at acting and they had dance-fighting and failed to either do a fun Iron Age swords-and-sandals epic OR do the very big and complicated actual story of the Illiad

Nolan movies are so fucking ugly. Which is amazing because he's such a cocksucking little queer who's obsessed with analog film and practicality. "Muh practical effects" are not always better when you made fucking Dunkirk look like just a few fucking guys and a nuclear test look like any other gas explosion on film. I'd literally rather have bad CGI that at least tries to give a battle a semblance of scale, than "hurr there are only like five boats in this movie, but it's okay because I shot it PRACTICAL." Get fucked.

I think a Trojan priest named Laocoรถn saw through the deception of the Trojan Horse and was going to prevent it from being brought into the city, so Poseidon sent a sea serpent to kill him and his sons so they couldn't warn the Trojans, but Odysseus didn't give Poseidon proper credit for saving his plan so he got angry and decided he had to be punished. Been awhile since I read but I think that's what happened.

>A crowd of a few hundred men at most.
Slop selective shot, and the numbers in the film are nowhere near 400,000. Digital doubles are a good idea, actually. Lick my taint. Imagine calling someone a midwit while defending the literal king of midwit filmmaking. Everything Nolan makes is made to appeal to Dunning-Kruger tards who think they have genius IQs but are probably hovering somewhere around 100.

There were never 400K people on the beach at the same time retards. It was 9 day operation spread along a 10 mile beach. Soldiers slowy trickled into the beach each day. See pic related, another image that conveniently looks like the film.
