Widen't Man of Steel penetrate the zeigeist like Superman (2025) is doing now?

Man of Steel is to /tv/ as Sonic the Hedgehog is to /v/. Neither are very popular and are universally mocked, but it's all anons on each respective board ever talks about.

Because people stopped talking about MoS outside of incel circles after its opening weekend. Because it was bad.

Superman (2025) is getting tons and tons of discussion, from people who loved it *and* from people who disliked it. The irony of all the bad faith chudtube channels trying to trash the film in order to hurt its box office is that all it's doing is helping the movie by generating discussion. Man of Steel didn't have much discussion, people saw it, shrugged, and forgot about it. So it sank like a rock in the ocean after a successful first weekend. That is what usually happens when a popular IP gets a movie that people don't like, just look at that shitty Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot.

Man of Steel had its interesting bits, but it never really delivered on the "feeling" that you should get when you are watching Superman. A movie experience is literally all about creating 'feeling' - creating emotional reaction. Man of Steel comes the closest of the whole dceu with the sequence where Superman summons the strength to trash the world engine intercut with the scenes of Perry White reassuring the girl trapped under rubble. But the rest of the movie and the whole DCU doesn't find that core feeling again. Snyder and his vision and the melodrama just doesn't deliver. The rest of the DCU just felt like MCU from wish.com the whole time and could never get out from under the feeling of being a cheap, rushed second rate rip-off. Meanwhile Marvel, in between quippy dialogue and silly comic book science mumbo-jumbo has a compelling character with an interesting Arc in Tony Stark and an emotional center with some really great moments of heroism for Captain America.

MoS is a Nolan-lite Batman movie except with Superman. I felt that it wasn't edgy/dark enough to be Batman, nor did it have the characteristics of Superman to make it a Superman movie. I liked it for what it was, as I am a sucker for the Batman trilogy.

I have little idea what happens afterwards because I didn't watch BVS, JL, WW or SS.

People got on Cavill for being le evil and what not but Corenswet’s Superman would be perfect for Injustice. Overly emotional, inserting himself into geopolitical conflicts, the controversial message from his kryptonian parents. I could easily see him chimping out if somebody like Lex killed pregnant Lois or Krypto.

I don't have an issue with SnyderPa being a psycho, but why did Superman cry like a bitch when he killed Zod? He should have been laughing maniacally, at least according to his upbringing. His sorrowful reaction didn't make any sense, it was never established that Superman valued life.

Except Nolan did grimdark well. Snyder is just such a tryhard. Yes, these are movies for teenagers, who do not care about such nuance. But given that the studios have tried to expand this audience by making capeshit more "adult", they should expect criticism from said adults.

Nolan's TDK trilogy had nuance, it wasnt trying to be edgy in an effort to shy away from comic books, it was trying to ask a lot of philosophical questions and to make the idea of a man wearing a bat costume believable.

This, it filtered so many by not being just another Superman film, I give it credit for actually challenging the audience with characters like a conflicted Pa Kent or a more emotionally lonely Superman, I really enjoy how that film made Clark's struggles seem real, he didn't just become a perfect wholesome Superman, and his parents weren't perfect either

Audiences only want to be challenged in safe ways (like Making a Jor El who barely has any Screen time evil)

Nolan and Goyer did not understand Superman. Snyder's directing ruined the good ideas in the script by turning Superman into Jesus with tonedeaf action because Snyder thought it was cool. In the end MoS was a huge mess all the way through.

Superman has always had messianic symbolism. It’s all over the comics and even Donner’s. Kal-El in Hebrew literally translates to voice of god. It was literally 2 jewish guys power fantasy of the second coming of Christ and destroying all evil in the world, like politicians. Seriously read the golden age stuff.

Yes but Superman at his core is a country boy from Kansas who had powers beyond everyone and uses it to help people. He's supposed to be an alien but somehow incredibly relatable and down to earth. All the previous superman movies made him look too out of touch when he's just supposed to be just a simple man. At least Gunn understands the heart of Superman and why people still love him today, it's not his powers but what he stands for and I'm happy there's a superman movie that actually gets superman for once.

Cavill’s is this
>He's supposed to be an alien but somehow incredibly relatable and down to earth
I disagree on the relatability aspect. He isn’t a self insert like Batman or Spiderman, he’s an icon, the icon of superheroes. Nobody wants to be a reporter with a bitch coworker. He’s a figure (an example) to look up to. It’s not like All-Star Superman is exactly relatable, he’s practically yet another messianic interpretation. That being said I think Cavill, at least in man of steel, isn’t for lack of relatability. He’s a soul searching introvert which works in today’s society.

Black pilled after 20 years of pure Gotham, the branding in particular didn’t start until the Black Zero event which he stopped after Superman died. But who cares if he kills a bunch of sex traffickers anyway.
