Why can't IMDB and Letterboxd normies ever evolve their tastes in kinos? Why is it always the same favorite movies?

There's not a single post 2000 movie as good as Taxi Driver or Lawrence of Arabia.

That's it, we peaked 40 years ago, the rest is focus tests slop catering to retards.

>Mean Girls being one of the 25 best movies of the first quarter of this century

competency crisis, both in voters and makers

Before Midnight is much more of a bizarre pick than Mean Girls.

i won't be able to rank them so here's a list of all the 10s i have given for movies in the 21st century so far, they're sorted by release date
most of those are artsy obscure picks which some might think means i watch a lot of shit but in reality not really, i haven't seen that much overall

if you are under the age of 20 the Before trilogy won't mean much. The first two are really beloved, third (Midnight) is hugely divisive.

many of these I haven't seen
>Before Sunset
nobody knows what this is
>zodiac
It's okay but a film that posits a specific guy as the zodiac who turned out not to be the zodiac is forever flawed
>nope
dogshit, a horror movie that runs out of steam as a horror movie and pivots to action because it's easier. What a fuckin gyp.
>social network
don't remember much but honestly who gives a fuck about zuckerberg's story this much
>whiplash
forced tension, quite stilted really. Better if you just look up a yotube compilation of J. K. Simmons' best rants from the film
>Mad max fury road
visually holds up but the "men bad" stuff has aged
>inglorious basterds
never lives up to the kino opening sequence
>arrival
hmm, it's good but not quite my thing. Would have enjoyed reading this as a beat up old paperback better than seeing it in a film
>paddington 2
good but not 11th best of the century bro
>28 years
good but not 12th best of the century bro
>uncut gems
funtionally replaced by Anora in my mind
>Get Out
only worth seeing once unless you are literally the dad from the film, then you'd see it three or more times
>before midnight
wtf is this not the same film from earlier
>Mission Impossible Fallout
quite stylish and pretty, it's alright
>sinners
I never saw this but come on
>VVitch
uh... I saw this once. It's nowhere near as good as Nosferatu, maybe it was alright though
>trick r treat
nigga we just making up movies now?
>Wall-e
thought it was pure kino as a kid but now I see it's just overly preachy and simplistic and sort of inhuman, like, yeah, I'm sure every human being is just gonna uniformly become obese and complacent. Every single one. Nah, Wall-E's gone down in my estimation substantially.
>oppenheimer
first film Nolan's made since finding out about sex so it's interesting for that reason
>Mission Impossible 5
decent action slop
