Reminder that Allison was already wearing those "glow up" clothes under her coat. That was who she really was and if you decry that scene as selling out, you're being a crab in a bucket, angry that she was able to be brave enough to show the others who she really was instead of hiding inside a shell. Clare even makes this explicit when she mentions "all those layers of makeup" Allison was wearing. It's the most obvious symbolism in the entire movie and you completely miss it due to your own fear of others seeing you for who you really are.

If the characters are not likeable then the movie is going to suck and flop at the box office. The Breakfast Club was only popular due to it being a Hughes movie and having a good soundtrack song. None of the characters were ever seen as being iconic.
