They should have called it shining 2 then people would have realised it was shining 2

But it's better this way because subhumans who never saw the shining can get a weird ghost vampire movie and people who watched the Shining can get a 30 years later kino.

It's really telling that out of all the complete shit that's been made out of his books the one King is still seething about, almost 50 years later, is the one regarded as a masterpiece.

Really good film given that it had an almost impossible task adapting that book and working as a sequel to Kubrickโ€™s film

Book was garbage, but the movie was better (which is ironic because this applies to The Shining as well).
The Shining power went from some vague psychic communication to magic or some shit. And energy vampires were fucking lame. It was also really dumb how they were just travelling around America and can detect energy from hundreds of miles away but never detected Danny before.
Oh, and Danny is now an alcoholic, same way Stephen King was a le alcoholic so every story he tells needs to have this same shit over and over.

His father was an alcoholic, also people refer to alcoholism as a demon so there is possible symbolic intent in having be haunted by his own demons and yada yada. I thought it was great. A much lighter watch than The Shindig. You can watch Doctor Sleep with a woman who isnt "the one" if you catch my drift. You can watch it without thinking about filmmaking. That's something people never talk about. There are "I'm acting" memes, but directors like kubrick do "I'm directing" shots and make you spend your time agreeing with the art hoe about how fucking intelligent and deep it is to slowly zoom a camera.

I loved The Shining and 2001 but sometimes I just want to watch a normal fucking movie, you know?

I enjoyed the movie, but it's so different from The Shining that it doesn't even really feel like it needs to be linked to The Shining at all, it'd almost be better if it was just its own standalone story, and all the callbacks and wink-wink fanservice shots referencing The Shining just felt unnecessarily shoehorned in and ended up being the weakest part

Itโ€™s fine. No rewatch value though, not even for Rebecca Ferguson and her vampiric milkies

>His father was an alcoholic,
I know, but it's a plot element that King has driven into the fucking ground. It would have been less cliche if Danny was a teatotaler but was taking meds for depression or anxiety (which also suppresses his Shining ability).

The scene where they ambush the vampires might be one of the worst things ever put to film.

Fantastic movie, I would have changed a few things
>up the runtime by 60 minutes
>dedicate a LONG time with Danny exploring the overlook
>recast the poop-colored little girl to a white girl that can actually act
>do more practical fx
That's all. It would be prefect

Fantastic movie, I would have changed a few things
>up the runtime by 60-80 minutes
>more exposition on Danny's early drug/alcohol years where he's actively trying to numb his visions
>more exposition in the old folks home with the cat (maybe some visual/spiritual parallels between the old folks home and the overlook)
>dedicate a LONG time with Danny exploring the overlook in act 3
>recast the poop-colored little girl to a white girl that can actually act
>do more practical fx
That's all. It would be prefect
