>still worse than Richard Donner's
>they gave Superman a no-kill rule
>people forget Reeve’s Superman straight up killed Zod
>and it was fine because Zod was a dick
>everyone says it's too comedic
>watched it dubbed so most jokes didn’t even register
>maybe that helped
>Superman is immature
>that’s established early so you roll with it
>people mad about Jor-El's message
>Gunn wanted it to be character assassination
>but aside from the weird harem comment (no one laughed btw)
nothing he says is actually evil
>they frame Superman as good because his SPACE parents told him to be
>not the Kents
>Pa Kent literally goes “not my place to tell you who to be son, just proud of you”
>space parents telling him to rule Earth isn't inherently evil
>power corrupts?
>Superman is literally proof it doesn’t
has all the power in the world, still saves squirrels
>crisis of faith scene with Pa Kent
he's sad Jor-El wasn’t who he thought he was
>then Pa Kent says “you’re a good boy Clark” and that’s it
>no stakes, no moral conflict, moving on
>Lois Lane is there
>very active, integral to getting Mr. Terrific to help
>but I can't find a throughline
>movie sets up reporter duty vs relationship but they never actually conflict

>romance is a nothing burger because she already knows he's Superman
>Donner’s love triangle with two people was better
>Lex Luthor is there too
>brains over brawn type
>plan is nonsense
>wants US permission to kill Superman
>random Middle East subplot helps to accomplish this somehow
>traps Superman in pocket dimension and just leaves him there
>didn’t even check if the kryptonite would actually kill him lmao
>trapped him with the ONE dude who could help him escape
>Bond villain tier incompetence

Watch the movie again, when they fall over the laser has just disabled their armor and they're fine. Not that I have too much of a problem with that. I'm more worried about his hesitance to kill actual Kaiju that are putting thousands of lives in danger.

Choosing not to kill can be cowardice if it leads to more lives being lost. The problem with Man of Steel is not that he killed Zod, it is that he let Zod destroy the entirety of Metropolis before he did it.

He said humans were simple-minded, destroy anyone who wouldn't submit, repopulate the planet with his progeny, and rule without mercy. Do you also think Genghis Khan was also a pretty chill guy?

>he said humans were simple-minded
Most of us are.
>destroy those who don't submit
If you're moral, those who don't submit are evil. This only works if you're evil.
>repopulate the planet with your progeny
I fail to see why reproduction would be bad.
>Do you also think Genghis Khan was also a pretty chill guy?
No. But this Superman was taught not to act like Genghis Khan by the El's in the first half of the message. It was intended as a whole.

First of all, Jor-El and Lara never told Superman to be nice to the people of Earth. They said they loved Kal-El personally and had picked Earth as his new home. Superman ASSUMED the rest of the message would be about serving the people of Earth, but he had never actually heard the rest of the message until Luthor broadcasted it. Superman explicitly says this in the movie. It's pretty clear that the El's couldn't give a rat's ass about the Earth natives.

Secondly, it's pretty fucked up that you're okay with a benevolent dictator. Superman is a really nice guy but he's still fallible and the precedent it establishes means someone else would inevitably take Superman's place who might not be such a nice guy. Moreover, the message of the movie is that our choices and actions are what define us. How the fuck is that possible if we're not free to make our own choices and actions?

I don't really know why anyone would assume this with no evidence. Like, you show up on shore of another country with half a letter that says "I love you so much" and you assume "Welp, gotta be this country's loyal servant now". That's a big leap. So maybe my mind filled the blanks with things that weren't there. If I did that, I apologise.

I still don't agree with the second paragraph, the idea that Superman would not have any control over the formation and choice of which of his descendants would rule is not reasonable. That's the entire concept behind a monarchy, a system that has existed from the beginning of human history and will continue to exist until the end of it. And thinking that a world where Superman rules would be a world where the concept of free will doesn't exist is equally a leap. It is like to say free will did not exist in any regime that wasn't a democracy. I already live in a world where dissent is crushed on a regular basis, but the average person does not so much notices (here's where the simple minded part applies). In the end, if the established order is good, threats to it should be removed, because if a new, malignant order is allowed to take root it won't wait to crush whatever forces stand in it's way. There is no power vacuum. Someone's will always rules.
