>>212911808this 100% - nearly everything at a mall can be gotten online so having a brick and mortar store that has to pay monthly rent for mall space just doesn't work anymore for most business' when a warehouse servers the same purpose
malls themselves are also high cost to run, huge amounts of energy for AC and heat during the summer/winter and staff to clean the open areas, security and such, mall food is like double the price sometimes, fucking pretzel for $8 when i went before mine closed which is what you're gonna pay in NYC from a street vendor
one of the large malls by me on long island is finally closing down and getting reopened as some open air shopping center where each store will be on it's own without the need for common areas to maintain if i'm understanding right
it's a shame really because i have a lot of fond memories of my time there as a kid, especially holiday shopping and all the events. great movie theater, the rear entrance was even in that mayhem geico commercial where dean winters in the "emotional teen" in the pink car that causes an accident
it was a fun place to hang out and it had nearly everything you could want baring more practical stuff at big box stores like home depot - walmart - lowes - target and sears from back in the day
i think the only malls that will continue to stick around for are one like walt witman mall which has stuff like the apple store and lululemon where girls will pay $100+ for a pair of leggings along with all the other high end shops and a community with money that will still engage with the mall space instead of shopping online
