>>212920563It was an allegory for the Cold War
>>212920535 (OP)Magnificent film with an all time great cast
>>212920600Only pretentious dweebs pretend to like this movie.
>>212920619Phew, good thing I’m not pretending
>>212920535 (OP)I saw this in the cinema.
>>212920619I watched it and didnt like it ether, its clearly for fans of the original brit tv show
>>212920774>the original brit tv showIt's a novel you dopey cunt
it crams too much in too little time, it's one of those films you have to see twice
>>212920774No you just got hard filtered.

>>212920535 (OP)The version with Alec Guinness mogs this
>>212920774I'd read the book and really enjoyed the film, but I can see that if you didn't know elements of the plot beforehand it could be confusing. Especially since they heavily employed Le Carre's spy-argot in the dialogue.
>>212921149As was British intelligence at the time
>>212921258At no point in the film was Smiley depicted as badass
>>212920535 (OP)This is the only movie I’ve fallen asleep during.
>>212921258it's exactly the opposite, this was his biggest weakness and the Russians knew it. Smiley suspected Bill Haydon was a mole but it was too "personal" because of the affair, making it easy to dismiss the clues
>>212921192>but I can see that if you didn't know elements of the plot beforehand it could be confusingThis is probably why I liked it on a second viewing.
>>212921258Literally no. TTSS is the anti-bond, smiley is explicitly a total loser. Smiley isn't really ever a badass, but in spite of being a fat ugly washed up cuck, he is still left holding the cards and able to root out the mole.
The movie was fine and its cast was good. The problem is that the story is so complex and contains so much detail that it cannot possibly fit in a two hour movie without lots of cutting and without the use of lots of shorthand.
The seven-part miniseries starring Alec Guinness (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, 1979) is far superior to the movie mostly because the story is given room to breath across roughly seven hours in seven episodes.
If you enjoy that mini-series, I am sure you will also enjoy Smiley's People, 1982, starring Alec Guinness and the same cast. It is six episodes and it is also excellent.
>>212920535 (OP)I haven't seen that version. But the old BBC television series from the late 1970s is very good
