>Texas-based Flix Brewhouse and Cinรฉpolis Luxury Cinemas have found success rolling out food serving robots. Given the price of labor in the United States, the robots pay for themselves within 30-60 days.

This thing seems incredibly stupid. At the theatre I go to, when you order popcorn the give you a bucket and you dispense popcorn from a large popcorn maker. Why do you need a humanoid robot when you can just deliver it from a hopper at the press of a button? This would be like replacing a soda fountain machine with an android who operates it for you. Stupid.

Totally reasonable point. With a human they wonโ€™t do it because nobody wants shit on their hand and nobody wants to go to prisonโ€ฆ but when someone just has to smear the hand for a moment? Suddenly itโ€™s an exciting crime that works perfectly.

And with human beings both sides have to be considered on a legal basisโ€ฆ but with a robot youโ€™re begging to have your company sued.

yes it was the Amazon one, I went there to check it out and there were thousands of cameras in the ceiling and was like wow tech bros are awesome... then i learned later it was all a lie lol. Now I know they are lying about AGI and the reality will be we lose out jobs to automation while they lock us inside an AI dictatorship

lets assume wagie is getting paid $15 an hour and works 40 hours a week. That's $2400 in 4 weeks. Is the wagie's sole responsibility to carry food to customers, or do they do other things like take tickets, prep the food, work the register, clean the theaters and bathrooms, etc? Can this one machine do this job efficiently enough to replace at least 2 full time workers, who apparently just carry food on trays to people in seats? Then what are the maintenance costs of this machine?
