The MCU got less popular the same time Disney+ and streaming started up and began connecting to the movies. Watching one movie in theaters every few months is easy enough but needing to watch an 8 hour TV show to understand why Scarlet Witch is evil now or why some people are green shapeshifting monsters means the whole universe got watered down.
