There's a few things that could've been done better and that's one of them. I think the overall appeal of Snyder is that he didn't stick to a predictable NPC approach to these kinds of movies. They're liked or disliked precisely because they're different. If he played it too safe they would've been forgotten already, just like Superman Returns.

The MCU has a few good movies in it, certainly had a strong beginning with Iron Man, but there's' a lot of uninspired garbage there too. What is more, it's very conveyor-belty, with each movie being very similar to the previous one, and the studio control is palpable. Snyder's films come across like he was allowed to do almost everything he wanted to, and a more distinct in their style. The weaker elements were studio mandated.
