The Starkiller Base might be one of the most ridiculous things I've seen in a movie. The Death Star was supposed to represent the near unlimited resources of the Empire, and the scattered remnants of the imperials build a whole fucking Death Planet. This shit would be too over-the-top for fucking Warhammer 40k and this is supposed to be Star Wars.

This and Palpatine snapping his fingers and summoning hundreds of Star Destroyers, only for Rey to snap her fingers to make them all go away only made the franchise seem smaller, not bigger. I mostly like what the current canon is surrounding post rotj pre force awakens, I think they did a fantastic job at patching the lore and painting a realistic picture of what the new status quo would look like.
Empire collapses, new republic rises. New republic gets complacent because ofc they do every politician is either from the rule of the empire (corrupt) or from the legacy of the original republic (literal retards).
The remnants of the empire take advantage of this, drop all pretense of being a merciful government and begin their plans for a coup using starkiller base and ultimately the resurrection of their evil magic king. Such a ripe 30 years to tell a story!

It works pretty well and would be an awesome way to do a trilogy. Can you imagine if star killer base was the last movie in the trilogy? How more impactful it would be if THAT'S when ben becomes kylo ren, THAT'S when the new republic capital is destroyed, THAT'S when Finn defects from the first order, THAT'S when we would've got legacy actors returning to reprise their roles as old luke, leia and han.

A trilogy showing the fall of the new republic while an evil emerges and our brand new hero ben turns to the dark side...
