yes, life is completely random. the only reason we get to experience life is because of the slim chance(complete understatement) of the universe forming literally perfectly.
when it comes to human beings, once you strip them of tradition, roots, customs, like in America, or any other neo-liberal post-modernist consoomerist shitscape, you see the reality of the situation. Sometimes I detach myself from an interaction and watch it unfold, observing the pathetic truth behind all human actions and reactions.
at the same time, I realize, somewhere deep in my heart that there is something beyond this world. that life is inherently beautiful, complex, mysterious. Some will say it's cope, or that it's my "programming", what people put into my head growing up. What I do know is that the more detached I am from nature, from healthy living, the more I get all nihilistic. for me, and for the majority of people in the western world, nihilism isn't a philosophically-motivated worldview. it's more of a reaction to an unnatural environment. same thing goes for rust. maybe a little less so. the guy grew up with an abusive nutjob father, alone, in northern Alaska. NO socialization. still managed to get a wife, had a kid. lost his child to a horrific accident, outside of his control. lost it on the job after a junkie tried injecting their child with meth, had to spend 4 YEARS undercover. of course he's going to be like this. The man's been through a lot. we've barely scratched the surface of his life. his life is a tragedy. He would've been a better father, husband and professional than marty and everyone in CID combined if it hadn't been for the shitty hand life dealt him.
