She has to ask dumb questions so the l33t computer haxxor character can explain the concept to the audience. Not to mention the higher up you get in the hierarchy of a company the less focused you are on the nuts and bolts of the company's actual work and more involved in marketing and getting contracts for the wageslaves to work on.
