Why? Why remake it? The films are good and iconic, why didn't they do more prequels or spin offs? Or a sequel trilogy? The HBO series doesn't look different design wise from the movies so what's the point?

Iโm looking forward to it just because I love the series but Iโm not expecting to be mind blown or anything. Iโm just happy something at all is happening with the series still in the current year
>>212952455 (OP)Nick Frost needs more extensive cheek beard, he looks like a muslim.
why didn't they make a movie out of cursed child
>>212952455 (OP)>Why remake it?Every remake has one goal, to increase the viewership by tweaking the material to appeal to a larger demography, and ideally insert DEI garbage. They also bank on existing fans to consoom either way, and provide free marketing.
Due to the tweaking the remake is always SHIT, obviously.
>>212952455 (OP)They fucked up most of the books stories after 3. 4 is the best book and the.movie is schlocky as shit
I agree wholeheartedly, why remake the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises? Seriously each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the seriesโ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.
Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody, just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but itโs certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.
>a-at least the books were good though
"No!"
The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."
I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.
>>212952520Shouldn't have recast Depp, I'm fairly convinced the third movie partly bombed because of it, them keeping Ezra certainly didn't help

>>212952455 (OP)The films are unwatchable trash and so will be this reboot.
>>212952455 (OP)I also find it bizarre, the movies are super popular and iconic, and the last one came out 14 years ago. Plus with J.K. Rowling having attracted a lot controversy and negative press in recent years it makes it even more surprising. At first I thought it was to punish J.K. Rowling for her anti-trans views (they'd make it super pozzed), but afaik she has a lot of creative control. But there must be some behind the scenes industry reason, this whole project makes no sense. Some anon was talking about how they did it because the original cast didn't want to return for a Cursed Child adaptation, but I don't know.
>>212955303>this whole project makes no senseFranchise prints money => make more content to print more money. This isn't rocket science.
>>212955303They rebooted Fantastic Four 8 years after the last one, and Spider-Man 5 years after the last Raimi film. I also think it's dumb but it's not that unprecedented.

>>212955785What the fuck are you talking about
>>212952455 (OP)>why didn't they do more prequels or spin offs? The last couple of Fantastic Beasts movies bombed.
>Or a sequel trilogy? Warner toyed with the idea of doing an adaptation of the Cursed Child, the sequel stage play (which is terrible). The problem is none of the original cast members wanted to return, partly because Rowling is obsessed with trans stuff and makes a lot of bad press. Rowling still owns the Harry Potter IP, though, and Warner can't make anything without her involvement. They tried to pay her billions of dollars to buy the whole thing outright and she refused. So now they're remaking the original series with actors who already know that Rowling is nuts and are willing to work with her anyway
