It's insane how well made Maverick is compared to Top Gun.

But at the end of the day, both are propaganda so in the trash it goes.

It was an entirely inferior derivation of the first movie. Top Gun '86 had that vibrant, crisp film look. The new movie looked like a fake AI version of the original.

I think people were just happy to have a decades-later sequel that seemed like it was made by people who actually liked the characters/story of the original movie.

2010's remakes/sequels were mostly done by people who resented having to use an established IP and just wanted to do their own thing so they'd sideline or kill the original characters and ignore the canon to make room for their own creations.

I though it was okay but it was weird to see it being hailed as a new film finally worth seeing in theaters. I don't find many new films I have much interest in seeing in theaters either, but I still feel like I came across ones that are comparable if not better to Maverick leading up to its release.

The shots at sunset are what make this film look amazing. The intro, this, and the final barrel roll shot... All amazing. The cinematographers (one they modeled Goose's death after, his name was Art Scholl) had an eye for beautiful shots.
TGM was okay, but definitely soulless compared to the original
