But that's the thing, they still pay them. They a whole bunch of them a whole bunch of money to keep churning out scripts and just don't use them.

Title: Avengers: Doomsday
Climax Scene – “Throne of Doom”

The skies are blood-red. Reality is fracturing. At the heart of a floating, broken Earth, Doctor Doom sits atop a throne forged from shattered dimensions, the Heart of the Beyonder glowing in his chestplate.

DOCTOR DOOM
You call me tyrant... yet I am the only one willing to rebuild what you've all broken.

REED RICHARDS (from another Earth)
No, Victor. You’re just afraid to let go of control.

Surrounding Doom: the last Avengers — Sam Wilson, Wanda, Strange, Thor, Kamala, Peter, and an older, battle-worn Tony Stark, wielding a device built from the last fragments of the Infinity Stones.

TONY STARK
You’ve really outdone yourself this time, Doom. Godhood suits you — shame it’s temporary.

DOOM
Arrogant to the end.

Doom unleashes a massive shockwave, twisting time and space. Strange fights to hold reality together. Wanda and Thor combine powers. Kamala shields civilians. Tony soars above it all.

TONY STARK
(over comms)
Kamala — fastball special.

KAMALA
With pleasure!

She throws Tony straight at Doom. The others attack in unison — Cap’s shield, Thor’s lightning, Wanda’s chaos magic. Tony slams the device into the Heart of the Beyonder.

DOCTOR DOOM
I AM DOOM! I—cannot—be—

BOOM.
A blinding white flash. When it clears, Doom is on his knees, defeated — but not destroyed. He vanishes in a flash of green light.

STRANGE
We delayed the end. But Doom... will return.

The heroes look out at the reborn Earth — bruised, but standing.

SAM WILSON
Avengers... assemble.

FADE TO BLACK
TEXT: “THE AGE OF DOOM HAS JUST BEGUN.”

Because the biggest obstacle for an ensemble cast film like Avengers is the schedule of the big name actors. There's also a difference between the script being unfinished versus the overall narrative not being finished, the script not being finished could be as small as still working out which characters gets smaller cameos versus which gets snubbed entirely, or they are still choosing between whatever stupid quips is focus testing better.

Isn't that risky to do on multi-million dollar productions? Is this how budgets get out of hand and skyrocket?

>Why do they keep doing this?
Security. How often these days do you see an entire script get leaked online? How many times have we known the entire plot up to a year in advance of a film coming out because of a script leak? The way you counter that is compartmentalization. No one has the full script. Everyone only has individual pieces here and there. If something leaks, you know exactly which motherfucker did it because they only had their small piece of the entire puzzle. This not only prevents the plot being ruined for everyone, but it also scares your talent into not leaking shit. Too often a film does poorly because people get a preconceived notion of the film based off the words on a page. So they don't bother seeing it. Often films go through rewrites, reshoots, entire things get changed in editing that turns something shitty into something great. But if the script leaks it can poison the well to where nobody even gives it a chance before it reaches its final cut

>Isn't that risky
Risk implies they have something to lose. Their movies are and shows are under performing anyway they're going to use this and Secret Wars as a reboot point. Where's the potential loss? The spectacle and RDJ's return probably insures this does at least just as well or better than what, any of their last 3 or 4 releases. None of this matters.
