I finished S2E6 and I think this is the turning point of the show. The first season was really good but played it a little safe, which is understandable. But now the status quo is getting shook up and stakes are raising and it feels like the overarching story is finally coming to life.

Don't get discouraged by how awful the next episode is.

the "overarching story" or myth cycle is about the worst part of the show, monster of the week episodes are always better, there I said it

Mulder explains at one point as a kid how he used to be able to hear his dad eating them it made him feel safe.

It's like Picard with earl gray or Jack O'Neil with fishing or, perfect analogy, archer with water polo.

everybody was a heavy smoker back then and it was the only way to get through a scene without lighting up

This stopped being a controversial take around 1996

The myth episodes work in specific phases where they're pursuing one thematic direction or another, because Carter couldn't stick to one lane, but put it all together and it's more ridiculous than a soap opera plot.

You only say this because you know they fuck it up. Assuming you go in blind, most people are more likely to favor the myth episodes during their first watch, especially the early season stuff.

I can't imagine watching this show religiously in the 90s, expecting things in the mytharc to eventually resolve. What a cocktease

As a kid the summer-long cliffhanger season breaks were awful. The wait between seasons 2 and 3 especially.

When I first watched the show I actually bought some sunflower seeds to eat while watching it. But actually seeds are full of poisons, you shouldn't eat that shit.

X-files always did those big cliffhangers in season finale and then resolved everything in episode 1 or 2 of the next season

That's how virtually all TV cliffhangers worked back then
