What emotional moments did it have that were ruined by levity? Colson makes one snarky comment after getting the upper hand on Loki but his actual death and the effect it has on the team are played straight. I genuinely can’t even remember anything else in the film that tried to play for emotional impact

It has more to do with the movies that preceded it. I think the avengers overall has a solid balance with the humor.
