>While J.R.R. Tolkien was open to the idea of The Lord of the Rings being adapted into an animated film, he was skeptical of dramatic adaptations in general, particularly those that might "vulgarize" or "sillify" his work.

Imagine being born in the Victorian era and dying after the sexual revolution and civil rights act. Guy must have some insight.

All my life people have been telling me how great LOTR is, leading to me reading the books multiple times and watching all the movies. But really it's kinda gay.

Yeah, it's nuts. But he was very laid back about everything. I just thought everything was fantastic all the time lol. He even took the Holland America Line to the US, Hoboken. But he didn't like it there because they had him working in some meat packing factory, and he was just a regular old timey butcher so he came back. He got his driving license by just going to the government office, where he told them yeah so and so, he has a car, he showed me how to drive and they just gave it to him.

he was right though, Peter Jackson sillified it too much. The shit with Gollum being comic relief, Mary and Pippen, Gimli and Legolas. There was too much silliness that wasn't in the books.

Yes, but because Jackson loves silly stuff. It doesn't mean that movies are inherently sillier than books.

For me it's making Aragorn a reluctant, destiny fearing king, changing Denethor, making Boromir come off as a complete prick constantly and everyone constantly treating him like they hate him, making Isildur out to be an evil asshole and having Elrond absolutely despise men and claim that they're all weak and it's over for them (despite literally raising Aragorn specifically to lead them).

>making Boromir come off as a complete prick constantly
I don't think he came off as a prick in the extended cut. Except maybe the scene where he's disrespectful of the broken Narsil, that made no sense.
>and everyone constantly treating him like they hate him
In the book Gandalf treats him like shit, worse than in the movie, despite Boromir generally being right about the things they disagree about.
