>>212985984From my understanding it's woefully inaccurate in terms of pre Columbian architecture and culture, creating a kind of mish-mash of Aztec and Maya city dwellers vs jungle tribes. It is not a documentary in the slightest, nor is it a realistic depiction of the collapse of a society. It's really more biblical, IMO, feeling like an old testament story about a man enduring unimaginable horrors to reunite with his family/tribe.
All that said, it's a great film. Costuming is beautiful, the cast is great, the entire film's "vibe" is really compelling. It's less a historical story and more a symbolic one using Mesoamerican aesthetics as a canvas for portraying societal corruption and doom.
