If you bring up hacker movies people will think of War Games or Hackers but Ferris hacks into the school computer system in this as well. Because the U.S. stopped being a manufacturing economy when they sent all of those jobs over seas, they had to communicate to young people “We’re an information economy now. Look at these cool young people using computers, isn’t it cool to be an information worker?” And for a while that made sense but now it’s coming to bite us in the ass. Because if all of the information work can be automated then where does that leave young people who spent 4+ years getting a degree to be an information worker?
