Movies need to make around 3x their budget to make profit because the box office is shared among theaters, distribution, taxes etc. Also there is the marketing budget for which we don't have official numbers but in any 200 million movie is always something around 100-150 million. So even at 500 million Superman barely paid itself, it needs 600 or more to be a success.
