Script is 2.5x as long as the combined LotR trilogy. For a single movie it would be straight up impossible, even if you cut material like crazy.

probably not. but I think it would be possible to do a loose adaptation that gets the vibe right, at least. something like True Detective s1 meets David Lynch. I don't really trust anybody to pull it off though.

I think this is the biggest problem with an adaptation. player choice is too important to the game's narrative. if you made a movie, you'd have to pick one ideology and a small handful of skills to focus on. the game is all about making choices and championing your personal beliefs and unique attributes. strip that away, and it's mostly just a generic detective story, plus by making one version of Harry "canon" you'd alienate 90% of players.

A big part of the appeal of this game is integrating player choice and character construction into the game world and logic and seeing that affect different playthroughs. I don't think Harry as a character would be interesting to see live and a TV series would have to lean heavily into absurd humor to play off of the numerous red herrings and general misery of the main plot if adapted.

You could make a good TV series out of the game setting though because it is interesting yet familiar enough that a viewer could dive right into it without much introduction. I wish we got a second game or something to see what happens to Revachol in the spring, with the way the game performed and continues to be discussed online it is truly retarded that there won't be an easy big hit sequel.

there was going to be a sequel but the devs all had different visions and the studio split apart. now there's like, 4 or 5 "spiritual successors" in development. I kind of doubt any of them will be as good as DE sadly.

yeah I heard a bit about it but never really looked into it. It was enough to know there would never be a sequel. I can't even imagine how devastating it must be for the people who thought up the Elysium lore to know it will never live up to what it could have been, fitting in a a way.

I only just finished my first playthrough last month, got fascist Harry because I picked every conversation option that included wöman because I liked how the narrator said it lol... I played through blind so I really thought there'd be a sixth day in Jamrock or at least an opportunity to meet the rest of the precinct, very disappointed it ended right after you meet your team.

probably would be the best route to go. just lean into Harry being an apolitical, lost mess focused on finding his memories, and have the political ideologies expressed through the characters around him. but even then I think a lot of people would be like "that's not MY Harry", which is valid because player expression is such a big part of the game.

Strikebreaking mercenary is killed. His heavily armed strikebreaker mercenary friends are mad and want revenge. Striking union workers seem like the most obvious culprit. Detective with drug and alcohol induced amnesia needs to solve the case. Turns out a deserter from a short lived communist revolution 40 years ago did it because he was butthurt the mercenary was fucking a woman he was stalking.

No. You could capture some of the spirit but the character creator and dice rolls, the failure, the subversion of video game tropes.
It just either wouldn't fit or it would lose the context that made it great.

It would be pretentious in a movie. Truly pretentious video games basically don't exist so this game gets away with things a movie couldn't
