Neither of them are very good portrayals of Baron Harkonnen, but at least Skarsgard wasn't reduced to a cheap comic turn.

The way he has the perfect life... watching his gladiator game, vaping in the black goo, kissing twinks. Just unapologetically prioritising self-care and joy.

As opposed to Lynch's Dune which practically beats the viewer over the head with its lore dumps. Sometimes saying less is better anon.

That's the point you retard, Rabban was handpicked because he's a terrible ruler and makes Feyd look significantly better. The Harkonnens overplayed their hand and called in favors they couldn't afford to reclaim a planet they couldn't control

Having le creatividad direct his own version of Dune would probably make for a more faithul adaptation of the novels.

Both films portrayed the Harkonnens as being physically corrupted and monstrous. When reading the novel I always imagined the Harkonnens as being good looking but decadent nobles, more like the Lannisters from GoT. Obviously the Baron is obese and dark eyed but otherwise they were never described as sickly or inhuman.

Lynch starts with four info dumps and still fails at explaining the world. In one of the info dumps, he even forgot to explain spice so Irulan fades back in and hastily adds it as an afterthought, lmao.

No one said Dune 1984 is good, but it's still better than Dunc.
It is a commentary on how bad Dunc is and not an exoneration of Dune 1984.

Fr bro
Why does every thread about Dune center around Lynch Dune vs Villeneuve Dunc?
It's like the Syfy series doesn't even exist.
People even shit on the costume design when it's actuslly somewhat weird and exotic and evokes a far future with culture completely alien to our own.

Kino in both but the '84 version are so repulsive it's a little hard to take
Making them hairless was a good way to cut down the disgust factor, like the Judge from Blood Meridian there's something clean and satisfying about it that makes a repulsive character a lot more acceptable
Denis obviously drew a lot of inspiration from the tulip boy scene from '84. I always thought the most hard hitting part of the book is when the Baron floats off to his quarters after killing the entire Atreides family thinking about a slave boy he's about to fuck that he picked out for his similarity to Paul
