The first hour of Batman Begins completely shits on The Batman.

But The Batman does one thing really well, which is understand the psychology of the characters. Other than that it is a mostly mid movie with some decent scenes. It's a masterpiece compared to most MCU and other DCEU slop.

The opening sequence leading up to "I'm Vengeance" is one of the best Batman sequences put to film. That said I hate how fucking weak he is in the movie. I want Batman to be a ninja. None of the movies (including Snyder) have done Batman's fighting prowess justice yet.

A lot of thing went right. It’s a 3 hour movie that goes by like a half hour movie. The fastest 3 hour movie of any comic book movie in the last 15 years. So definitely pacing was right. Never a dull moment. Also don’t mess with Oz Cobb.

Sorry, bro. Fastest 3 hours. Period. Which makes sense because I binge watched the new Planet of the Apes movies and they went by so fast. Matt Reeves is simply good with pacing. I would say new Top Gun is great with pacing as well.

With a proper fan edit The Batman could be redeemed a bit. It would need to be completely gutted. Something on the scale of what was done with the Hobbit trilogy. Completely remove certain characters such as the mayor, trim the relentless bloat, turn it into nothing but a 90 minute Penguin story with the last half completely removed. Warner Bros should have ended The Batman at the halfway mark, setting the stage for an immediate sequel that the fans would have demanded. Instead it seems they chose the non-committal path, opting to resort to carnival tactics where they trot out villains one at a time as the audience jeers. And now here they sit, collective loads fully spent on the first movie, with nary an idea to be found for how to avoid a sequel-trilogy-tier fuck up.
