Why wasn't he wacked for assasinating all the other dons? If you can do that at any time without repercussions, why wouldn't anyone jsus do it?

Mob families aren't like corporations, there's not always a clear line of succession where one CEO gets replaced by another. Killing a head of a family would result in a ton of infighting. Look at all the treachery Michael had to put up with in his own family. After he killed the dons, the other families simply weren't in a position to fight back.

Because it takes a ton of planning and consolidation of your own power to do something like that. If Don Vito had done it in his weakened condition, with his oldest son dead and Michael hiding out in Italy, there probably would have been retaliations. It only worked for Michael because he had taken power, knew who the traitors in his own family were (Tessio and Carlo), and had tard-wrangled Fredo. He was in a position to do it right without it resulting in infighting and retaliations.
