Overly self important
Constantly doing dumb shit to reinvent the wheel.
Line cooks who make french fries all day go "He's literally me"
Rob Lowe can make a gay cringe show about firefighters and everyone can laugh at how retarded it is, but make a gay cringe show about a chef and every idiot who works in a kitchen will say "this is just like real life"

I love chefs and a lot the film and television about them. I even like Bourdain a lot. But it seems like in the past 10 years a lot of the โ€œauraโ€ about the life of chefs has just become insufferable. I blame YouTube โ€œchefsโ€ like Joshua Weissman and his ilk. Chef John on the other hand is the complete opposite.

for me its the way they act like its this badass lower class dirtbag thing to do while pretending they aren't proud of it while never shutting the fuck up about it.
until the "civvie" meme i thought i was the only one who noticed it being a thing, there was also a linecook general in /ck/ in the past where it was just anons circlejerking over their super tough degenerate kitchen jobs with doomer wojak memes, unironically acting like the memes on here with greentexts about waitresses doing lines of coke while a customer makes ANOTHER order you guys. i have seen these people in real life too.

I worked as a waiter in a country club a long time ago and every single member of the kitchen staff had a massive chip on their shoulder. Head chef was cool but everyone else felt like they were one shift away from going insane or quitting with some grand gesture that in their minds they would be remembered by.

The only cool chefs are the Mexicans who barely speak any English, blast that oompa music, and make fun of eachother/you

They just need to go back to being jolly fat dudes with a strong (non-british) euro accent and wearing a big poofy white hat.

culinary culture is cringe and gay, there are no good movies about it. the only one ive seen lately is pig and it was pretty silly and stupid but people for some reason act like its the deepest thing ever.
