Brilliantly directed and acted but falls apart in the writing. There is absolutely no stakes or tension because nothing Ray does has any consequence.
He literally kills his brother and then sets the house on fire and then 5 mins later he's back to his wacky shenanigans.

The only time anything matters is when he assaults someone in front of the cops and gets thrown in jail, but that was just so they could have a prison episode where Ray shows his bad arse prison wisdom coz he has every bogan super-power imaginable.

Most situations are set up so poorly it's almost comical. Anywhere this guy goes, someone manages to pick a fight with him. He can't even go to the shop without getting into trouble. And then miraculously he always comes out fine no matter how insane the situation - like when he deliberately crashes a car he's in, and the 2 other passengers die but he just walks away.

In defense of the casting decision though, the character predates the show. The series a continuation of a film he made years ago and he played the lead in that because he couldn't afford an actor. He had more money this time around, but recasting is always distracting and shitty so I'm glad he didn't.
