I preferred Riker before the beard.
>>213025587i like the beard. he looks good without it too.

it was a subject line star trek hazard
>>213026051TNG is an okay entry point, lot's of people say skip season 1 but it's not that bad.
Go into keeping in mind it's not as deep and serious as retards make it out to be. It's campy tv sci-fi.
DS9 is also a fine way to start.
>>213026051you can jump in anywhere you want but it helps to know the past stories. tng, ds9 and voyager are all within the same timeframe of events while the original show and enterprise are more self-contained. tng is a good one to start with but keep in mind the later eps are considered the better ones, it takes about 2 seasons for the show to find its footing (actually a trope called 'growing the beard' with regards to riker growing his beard out)
>>213026051I jumped on it as a 30yo dude, fan of scifi and star wars, and now 10 years later I regret not knowing it earlier.
Start with TNG, endure some bland season 1 episodes, and you'll get masterpieces for several seasons once the cast grows on you.
If you are a scifi fan, you won't ever regret watching star trek, and you will only regret the series not being 500 episodes.

>>213026051I started with DS9 and went backwards, to TNG and then the original show. It's probably not the way most people get into Star Trek, but I've loved nearly every minute of it, except Dr. Crusher episodes.
when SNW ends at five "seasons" it'll only have 45 episodes, which is less than what two seasons of TNG would have
>>213029465good space scifi doesn't come along often, its pretty slim pickings for new stuff. i enjoyed it enough that i read most of the books. i even appreciated some of the changes they made for the show like giving dawes/ashford more characterization. i've read past s5 anyways but i couldn't watch it past a few eps in. they should have just renamed it the naomi. i hope i never see dominique tipper in anything ever again
what would you suggest for something recent and scifi?
>>213029515I was similar in that I didn't know there was so much continuity. I think I went
TOS
Voyager
TNG
Enterprise
DS9
I was sooo confused as to who the Maquis were supposed to be. Especially the episode when they find out they all died like I had no context about who the Cardassians were and I remember trying to read about it at Memory Alpha and it really wasn't helpful. I've seen everything a few times since then, and this time I'm actually watching everything including nuTrek in timeline order. Nearly at season 7 of DS9 and man it has taken me probably 2 years to get this far.

Please inform me how this makes you laugh if you've experienced the same from your dad.
>>213030625Well, I read the comic and the basic idea is that the Kataanian people survived the nova, and the crew of the Enterprise finds them in stasis. And then Picard has to reconcile his life as Kamin with the fact that his fictional wife is an actual real person and that she's married to someone else. The rest of it is just your standard TNG fare. You can find the comic online.

Personally I'm of the opinion that the old crusty 480p versions makes for a superior viewing experience, because the blurriness helps hide minor goofs and blend the makeup seams better. These upscaled 4k versions let you see every pore on the actor's face, and I really have to wonder how that makes for better immersion.

be real; you'd try and get some black market Faraday Cage for your brain so telepaths couldn't read your thoughts, right?

Thread for the nightshifters. Use it while itโs still up!
>>213039747
>>213027740exactly my path too, charmed me with very likable cast, intrigue and production design
Were her actions fair towards Riker? was she entitled to her frustration towards Riker? should Riker have been harder on her? Was Riker at fault?
>>213039760The nipples are pink, the rest is blue
>>213039109Makes them seem more odd
>>213029797She didn't take getting fired from Voyager well. She had a mental breakdown and spiraled out of control with drugs. She was close friends with Captain Janeways actress Kate Mulgrew.
Kate knew this was happening and took out her frustration on Jeri Ryan who played a Seven of Nine. Kate blamed Jeri for it happening.
>>213041281it was her own fault, she was showing up drunk, high or not showing up at all they had to rewrite scenes day of shooting because she wasn't their, this was happening regularly since season 2 started, she got off light considering she was in breach of contract
>>213034199Archer fucked more than Picard going by what actually happens in the shows
>>213039202Tarah >>> Talas.
also the way she died was so stupid lol
Holy shit I didn't see this coming at all.
I love him. In an ideal world he'd be my partner Pokemon.
>>213041281That seems really unfair. It appears Janeway was a psycho, on and off camera.
>>213041514Wait what? I heard that was Harry Kim's actor, Garrett Wong. He would constantly show up late and always delay production by keeping everyone waiting. Garrett kept doing it for several seasons. The producers were going to fire the actor until that "Hottest Asian of Hollywood List" came out and Garrett was on it. So they couldn't fire him without looking bad. So they fired Kes' actress instead.
>>213042567Kate was old Hollywood mentality and saw the recasting of Kes for Seven for what it was: blatant sex appeal to attract viewers, and she took it personally.
>>213042567To be fair, Jeri Ryan WAS sleeping with the Producers. She admitted it openly. That's how we got all those Seven of Nine episodes (Not that I'm complaining lol).
Must be really annoying to Kate that a supporting character like Seven of Nine getting more episodes than the Captain of the ship.
>>213042750no he was a diva but it was Jennifer who kept fucking with the schedule i'm rewatching voy on season 2 now and its actually noticeable their are multiple episodes where she doesn't appear and they reference her like
>shes in hydroponics or some excuse why she isn't in sickbay with the doctor
Say that to me in the Anbo-Jyutsu ring, not online, see what happens
what's with all the comic-book spamming? is that the only way oldtrek grandpas can keep their thread alive? by blatantly violating the rules?
>>213029627>what would you suggest for something recent and scifi?I would say there's nothing to recommend. Just find out what they haven't already watched.

>>213040936nope, the nipples are also blue
>>213039109>were a think tankIdk but was Jason Alexander the worst guest actor in the history of star trek? S5 is peak voyager and the episode isn't bad but George is bad
>and like two episodes later you get Mr Pitt and Scott Thompson from KITH
>>213043082Oh God is that a ThunderCats crossover? Is Riker fucking women outside his own franchise now?
>>213043757I had no problem with him his initial appearance in the mess hall is a good scene
>>213043790I have this comic on my hard drive, it can't really be the Thundercats right? Like the second issue of the TNG can't really just be Thundercats
>it really looks like thundercats
>>213043790>>213043850their the cat race from TAS ffs
I think the absolute worst actor I've ever seen on Trek is the pajeeta who was one of those Kriosians on Enterprise
>>213043916For me, it's Patrick Stewart. He's not even a sci-fi fan.
>>213043898The Thundercats or the race in the comics that looks just like the Thundercats or both
>>213043757>be Tomin>Immune to the immunities in syntheholHe did nothing wrong
>>213043916What was with ENT having several sex comedy episodes in S2? Not that I would mind but they aren't that sexy or funny.
>>213044002early 00s sensibilities. ENT is very dated if you watch it now
>>213044002Remember how in s1 Trip gets mind raped, baby trapped and Archer just makes fun of him for it.
>>213043996
>>213044061That was actually kind of funny

>>213044191>>213044237it was just a holodeck program pure fiction I made it up
>>213044133it's so disgusting when you really think about it because Trip was the one who actually spent time among and learning about Vissians and Archer knew fucking nothing about them except that he wanted to suck off their captain because he was so impressed he could read and quote Shakespeare. it's like his whole worldview based on the ONE guy he got along with was shattered by reality and instead of letting go of it when he realized his supposedly enlightened Shakespeare quoting alien butt buddy he just met condones slavery and taking the L, he takes it out on Trip
>>213044237All Trek after "Terra Prime" isn't canon.
>>213043477Venomous, not poisonous.
>>213044272Shakespeare is pretty powerful in trek, along with Mark twain and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle he's one of earth's 3 writers
Why can't he just let it go? Doesn't he understand that Picard was literally being controlled by the Borg when he happened to be at the battle where Sisko's wife was killed?
>>213044272To be fair to Archer it was one of the only times that first contact with a new species didn't start off with them firing at Enterprise. But those dudes had some serious issues acting all smug and enlightened while treating their fucktoys as pets. Nuke Vissia.
>>213044389I think because sisko is a little retarded
>>213044389he literally lets it go at the end of the episode, and i'm using literally correctly he figuratively and quite literally lets it go when the prophets help him work through his trama
>>213044437Sisko narrates that episode and he is an unreliable narrator.
>>213044450lol but no he doesn't thats his log by that logical every episode is narrated
>>213026371the music is better too
>>213026338I'm a s2 truther but s1-5 are all kino
>>213044406The smug asshole Sikarians who refused to help Voyager use their galaxy-spanning transporter tech should also have been bombarded from orbit.
>>213044389all the wormhole aliens fault, anyway
>>213044479>by that logical every episode is narratedastute observation, indeed they are.
>>213044520it doesn't work you forgot the conclusion the unique properties of the planet allowed their transporter tech to work, it couldn't transport ships so at most they could strand the crew on some planet 40'000 light years closer to home but without a ship, plus they were way more advanced and would've blown voyager out of the sky, she may be insane but she's not stupid, well except for that one time, and that other time...and that other time. She's mostly not stupid just a cruel insane and violent sociopath
>>213043987That's a quote from Picard in the show, not Patrick Stewart.
Someone tell me more about Species 8472
