Standup sucks. There’s 4 people who are actually funny at stand up. Louis, Chappelle, Norm, Kat. Nick is unironically the funniest person to ever live, conversationally.

His standup IS funny, he just never records anything.
He never shoots specials, he never advertises himself. I'm not going to psychoanalyze him like other retards. Whatever his reasons are, he could easily shoot specials and get bigger, but he's not going to because he's already made it where he doesn't need to work.

Hypothetically, if you compare shane gillis' big hit to year of the dragon, it's clear Nick is holding himself back way too much. Nick had no idea the world was ready for a guy like Shane to come out.
if YOTD was as raunchy as a cumtown bit then Nick could have been massive, but he didn't want to take the risk, meanwhile Shane was already "cancelled" so he figured he didn't have anything holding him back.
And at the end of the day, Nick never had higher aspirations, he never wanted to act or shoot sketch shows, do netflix or go on Rogan. Nick also doesn't riff with other people while Shane can go into any room, any podcast and dominates the room.

Nicks problem is that he’s fucking bipolar so he can’t sustain interest in anything for more than a couple of months. TAFS was a schizophrenic idea he had that he cared about for a little and quit. If you listened to cumtown chronologically, the ups and downs he goes through emotionally are apparent. There would be weeks where he’s engaged and doing bits and then weeks where he can only manage a mumble because he’s so depressed.

TAFS was Nick giving Adam his own independent source of income that wasn't derived from Nick or Stav. Nick left when Adam could stand on his own, which happened when Adam blew up while touring in the UK where he found his audience. Now Adam is on fucking CNN covering news and shit.

At the end of the day Nick got his bag and left. I don't know which TAFS episode he said it in, but Nick said he's only working until he reaches an ?? amount of money so he can retire while covering the expenses of everyone in his life. That's his prerogative to take and I would do the same shit.

The average dude gets a 10x funniness boost in a casual conversation with friends they are comfortable with vs. doing stand-up in front of strangers. In a casual conversation the set-ups are natural, the stakes are lower, you other people to riff off of, etc.

This is why so many modern comics resort to "crowd work" because all it takes to be funny to normies is fish for someone to say something weird and then go like "woww someone's not getting pussy 2nite" or some shit and everyone laughs.

Amy Schumer and Bert Kreischer are sometimes funny in podcasts and roasts but are horrible at standup. I think it’s an inability to perform a scripted show, sort of like being funny at a party but not on a stage.
