why did nerds have their media moment specifically from like 2012-2018?
people don't even remember how so many shows and movies (most of which were immediately canceled and forgotten) deified intelligence.

i think writers realised being a 'nerd' isn't secretly cool. 'nerdy people' don't get their comeuppance against the jock bullies in the end - they ARE the weird spergy creeps, IRL.

A lot of nerds are incels

These incels all raged at shows like bingo bang theory, and Mr robot because the main characters would have sex

These incels raged and I guess the producers learned that the incel market isn't a very profitable one

millennials, that's all it is, they're the biggest nerd generation and wanted to look cool, notice how it died after 2018? that's when based zoomers grew up and took over entertainment.

being a nerd used to be a bad thing you didnt want to be, then capitalism decided it was a consumer category and absorbed it, instead of being a nerd cause you were smart it became you were a nerd based on the products you consumed.

Anyways, that awful obama era trope is over and im glad its dead. the new nerds are the incels

Millenials are a very hated generation by the mainstream, and why?
They had movies like the Star Wars prequels (made outside of the Hollywood clique), the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (should be obvious why that's hated by Hollywood), videogames (media formerly completely outside the mainstream - up until around 2010), Anime, and all manner of media and subcultures formed around them that weren't under thumb or heel.
A lot of these types of people were also people with IQ's at or above 100, and this sort of millennial nerd was generally more well read.
Millenials who grew up with the "nerd shit" of the 00's were not under mainstream control.

So there was a two pronged stratedgy around 2012 to chastise male nerds with feminism, infiltrate millennial male spaces and media with "politically correct" values, while also promoting a safe, sterilized "nerd culture" in the mainstream.
See: The Big Bang Theory, the Star Trek reboots, that sort of thing.
Some of this stuck, some of it didn't, but Millenials in general were still far from being brought to heel.
And then Hollywood tipped its hand with the Star Wars sequels, by making something that was openly hostile to this group of people, the "Millennial Nerds", while trying to argue with the press that "you weren't a true Star Wars fan if you didn't like the sequels"
And no one bought it.

it almost definitely is. computer games are huge (nothing against gamers just saying there's some obvious overlap.)

>obama era trope
this. it was a reaction to the 2000s, when evangelical christians, the most retarded version of big government conservativism, and Paris Hilton/MTV pop culture dominated the mainstream. The pendulum swung hard in the direction of people who actually knew things and had educational attainment.
Then it got old because that same class got too finger waggy, too politically correct, and then were completely discredited by COVID.
Right now we're in a "based retard" moment where being a callus asshole is considered funny and entertaining. It will be over in a few years too.

Because boomers ruined cities and going outside and social life, which left their children and grandchildren stuck at home rewatching star wars and playing with lego a little too old because the places boomers used to hang out became filled with homeless and blacks.

This especially projected itself into hollywood because everywhere in California turned into a hellscape where walking down the street after 6pm meant certain death. So all the writers, producers, actors and nepobabies were all nerdy shut ins who played DnD and zelda and shit.
Try being clubbing and getting wasted, or fuck around in SF or LA and see how long you live.

Sure, but 2007 was the first year a videogame made more money than any hollywood blockbuster in that year.
Vidya before the mid-00's was seen as "merely a hobby for the middle class" and not a threat to the establishment's hold on popular consciousness.

It wasn't even "nerd" "culture" as millennials understood it. It was a pastiche of what boomer and early gen X writers believed about "nerd culture". Shit was basically blackface but for dorks instead of niggers. Not that portraying an accurate contemporary "nerd culture" would be any less fucking cringe. I am a nerd and I don't hate any other group nearly as much as those self-righteous, smelly, low-bros pseud apes that present themselves as nerds and geeks like it's okay to be that way in public (it isn't).
