Who's actually more based, the guy who has no choice but to do good because he's wired that way or the one who could walk away do nothing or even be selfish but chooses to do good anyway?

Both have killed exactly one person. Cavill killed a tyrant that wanted to genocide humanity, while Corenswet killed his brainwashed clone.

Bait, but I’ll bite. The idea that Cavill doesn’t have the same opportunity to rule/oppress or walk away like Corenswet is a disingenuous interpretation. Cavill’s superman was constantly given the choice by his earth parents to walk away and do nothing. Jor El’s hologram isn’t specific on how Cavill should “inspire” and “be the bridge between two peoples”. It never necessarily barred him from taking on the role of being a just tyrant. What makes Superman Superman is that he rejects the subtle temptation to wield power for its own sake. Whether to interpret Superman as nietzsche’s übermensch or as a Jesus allegory, it doesn’t matter. Having Superman basically base his entire personality off of a fragment message is such juvenile kiddy shit to begin with. Then making it a blatantly evil message for him to easily reject is also pretty lame. Corenswet isn’t given a primrose path…he’s given a rather pathetic identity crisis for him to “overcome”.

its as though it was the first plot point in some kind of, uh, "coming of age story".

The clone got sucked into a pocket universe. It's unclear if he's dead or not.

The clone got sucked into a black hole. Even if he could withstand gravity, he has no food, water, air or sunlight. He's 100% dead.

Bruh, he’s in his 30s. Having a grown ass man being cooed and coddled by a message telling him how loved he is on repeat is just sick. It’s egotistical. Not to mention they double down on it at the end with the Kent’s, so don’t pretend like there was any growth or coming of age.
We get it, James Gunn is ripping off his own idea of our hero being obsessed with a keepsake to remind them of their parents. But while Peter’s mixtape was born out of the trauma of his mother dying of cancer and being raised by raiders, Superman has none of that. He was raised by loving parents. Ffs man of steel did a better job of showing Clark struggle to adapt, here we get none of it, so I can only assume he had a pain free childhood.

Don't forget how the idea that the message could have been faked is instantly dismissed, because The Experts have NEVER lied before!

He's gonna turn into Bizarro probably. No one irl actually knows what happens when you enter a black hole, and given that it's a comic book movie, it's safe to assume weird fantastical shit happens.
