>>213044801Walt should have just broken up with Skyler and toured around southeast asia seeing the sights and trying new foods while the cancer killed him.
Now that would be a show. One season only.
No real stakes. No extended malingering on mortality.
Just a dying man wandering around little towns and islands in the Philippines, hiking up unmarked trails coughing his lungs out to get to the top and see a pretty and entirely unknown waterfall and a nice lake.
Thinking about just staying there and dying there.
Hiking back down the next morning when he got hungry.
Into another city.
Wandering around, a few locals talk to him in broken English. Sometimes he meets other expats. There are two separate episodes centered mainly around his conversation and travel with fellow expats. One good, one bad. Good expat is a British grandmother touring around on vacation especially looking for flowers she can't see and touch at home. Bad expat is a semi-wealthy Slovenian on a mid-life sex tourist crisis who Walt meets the one time he goes into a strip joint, and through the course of the episode Walt finds out he's basically a pedophile who pays the parents, like in the "good old days" of sex tourism.
Maybe Walt ends up finding a way to get him arrested without getting involved by baiting him somehow and alerting the authorities anonymously to something. Nothing edgy like Walt killing him as a last act, just grim satisfaction as he's taken away. A little after the middle of the episode Walt passes out on a tour bus and is really ill for a day or two just holed up in a motel because he doesn't want medical care and nothing short of chemo can much help him and that's already too late.
After that he thinks about what if he dies on a bus after coming all this way, and he finishes up his journal and sends it home to Walter Jr. a few episodes before the end of the show, then ends up dying on a rural ferry while checking out some small islands.
