The weirdest thing about Dexter wearing a wig is that the series already had an actor, like Devon Graye, portraying a younger Dexter in flashbacks.

Honestly Dexter is easier to enjoy if you view it less as a prestige television series like Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad and viewing more as a cop procedural like NCIS or CSI but with occasional bouts of good writing with more blood and nudity and swearing

Stop at season 4. It never gets good again. Original Sin is pretty good and will hopefully ignore the shittier second half of the OG series.

Don't touch the 2 sequel series. New Blood isn't good enough to bother watching Season 8 and and Resurrection is probably the worst the series has ever been

After the season 4 finale, the show's dynamic changed it ruined Dexter as a character. The writers were having a tug-of-war with his character progression and the show stagnated until season 7. 7 & 8 edged the fans with Deus Ex Machinas saving people at random times and the show ended in the worst most unsatisfying way possible that it became a meme for 10 years.

Dexter scratches a itch that I can't describe.
Hall is a very good actor so his performance is memorable and quite good, even all the side characters stand out a little. I like the aesthetic of the Miami backdrop. It has decent humor in spots (cringe in others). It's a police show with a extra added twist to it. It was bad more than it was good but I can atleast say I enjoy it still.

I fully expect s2 of Original Sin to be its own thing that throws the canon completely out the window. It's already ignored it in so many aspects and they can't develop the show further otherwise since canonically literally nothing interesting happens between its end and s1 of Dexter (unless Harry dying undramatically counts)

Good thread starter.

I finished New Blood, was surprisingly good all throughout. The Batista thing was a little retarded but i'm fine with it. Harrison was great and I loved the dynamic. I like how they went through the effort to make the town seem lively and have character even tho we probably wont see any of those characters again.
Only thing I thought was really retarded was dexter having to kill the cop...why couldn't he have just continued choking him out and have him pass out, how does it make sense for him to immediately kill him in that position, yeah he had a gun but how the hell was he supposed to aim and properly kill him, why did he have to kill him, why didn't dexter lie about killing him and said he knocked him out?
Regardless of how retarded it was, I do like how it lead to the final confrontation in the end. It's crazy how good this is compared to the last few seasons.

Anyways, i'm half way through Original Sin now and it's surprisingly good too. All of the actors play their parts really well so far and the plot isn't crazy but i'm a fan. It's not perfect casting but it's good enough and I think the actors do a good job copying the voices and mannerisms of the actors they're portraying. Is it true they're doing season 2?

>"She sees things we don't see"
>Literally just her matching the colors on the trash bag ties and noticing the bag was tied strangely
>Make her quirky by having her obsessed with putting on her headphones and then rudely yelling at people because she can't hear them

I also appreciate that they acknowledged and commented on the shitty writing in new blood
>Undid the shitty retcon of Dexter always having used ketamine, he's back to M99
>Acknowledged that they have zero evidence to arrest him in new blood and that's why he's off scott free
I'm cautiously optimistic that this season will get a good ending

New Blood was hot garbage and Harrison almost single handily made the show unwatchable. The writing was so ridiculous that nothing felt believable at all
>During a wrestling match, after he already had his opponent pinned, Harrison spergs out and snaps the other kids arm
>He gets ABSOLUTELY ZERO PUNISHMENT FOR THIS
>No suspension from the school, not kicked off the wrestling team, the other kid and his parents don't press charges, nothing even though it was very clearly an intentional action
>Harrison wants to be the moral arbiter and is willing to kill his dad because Dexter killed the cop
>Harrison however is totally fine with the fact that he attempted to kill the loner kid at school and framed him to be a wanna be school shooter, putting him in a coma and destroying his families lives by making them live with that stigma/guilt
>Harrison skips his therapy sessions and the therapist doesn't call Dexter to report this lmao
Everything surrounding Harrison had plot armor, that paired with his whiney shitty attitude made him insufferable to watch

No, they actually retconned it entirely and said that the bay harbor butcher victims all had ketamine in their systems, which is what made his detective girlfriend suspect him of being the bay harbor butcher.
It was literally a shitty retcon because the writers were too dumb to think of another way to connect Dexter back to the bay harbor killings.

That's why in resurrection they specifically make the call back to him using the name Patrick Bateman on his fake license to get M99, acknowledging the retcon and undoing it

I'm almost certain in the writing room for that season they probably struggled to find a way to connect Dexter back to the bay harbor killings, because he had no means to get a controlled substance like M99, so they just decided to switch it to ketamine and told themselves "the fans probably won't notice or care".

Everything in New Blood was just trash. The way Dexter was arrested, all he had to do was wait it out and beat the charges in court because they had absolutely nothing on him

How is anything there bad writing? The arm breaking is whatever, would you REALLY feel better if they spent a 2 minute scene explaining how he's not grounded or some shit? With the therapist thing Dexter makes Harrison go to therapy next time with Dex being there with him.

The entire point is that Harrison is fucked up and he doesn't know how to deal with his feelings. It's not bad writing that he has the urge to hurt people and at the same time have real feelings and wanting to protect them. Harrison wanting to protect that kid from the jocks but then found out he wanted to kill them, Harrison used this as a way to have a reason to hurt somebody and I think Dex even has a line in his head about noticing how Harrison was almost following his code.. He's a teenager who has a shitty life and his dad who he finally found after thinking he was dead most of his life is terrible at supporting him, part of the show is harrison growing and trying to learn and deal with his dark passenger ending with him being completely disgusted by Dexter and wanting nothing to do with him.

>How is anything there bad writing?
Because the show isn't set in fucking fantasy land. It's meant to be a believable story and yet we see Harrison sperg out and snap another kids arm, and he doesn't even get kicked off the fucking wrestling team lmao. They may as well have given Harrison a gold medal and told him "good job, snap the next kids arm too!"
>the therapist thing
Again, we live in fucking reality. If a teenager who has been enrolled by their parents into therapy skips their session, a licensed therapist is going to call and report it.
Actually doing that could have made for a good scene, Dexter already knowing for a fact that Harrison blew off therapy, but Harrison lying to him. Maybe Dexter then decides to follow him secretly next time, see where he goes when he blows off therapy. But nah, instead let's have Harrison lie about it, and then immediately confess to not going, that's way more interesting!

>harrison wanted to protect the popular kids
No, he wanted to use the nerdy kid as a way to skyrocket himself into popularity, meanwhile destroying his whole families lives. But noooooo please don't focus on that, Dexter simply HAS to die because he killed the cop Harrison liked. Harrison deserves ZERO accountability for his own actions while demanding Dexter has accountability for his lmao

Perhaps worse than any of that is how the New Blood finale very abruptly tries to write Dex into a corner and illustrate how he's actually an unsympathetic bad guy who needs to die.
Not just with the killing Logan thing, but how earlier when Angela arrests him, Dex almost attacks her with kitchen knives. He immediately decides he's willing to kill or maim his own girlfriend, who is a good person and has done nothing wrong, in order to escape. It's jarring and something we've never really seen from him before

Yeah, it was pretty character assassination of Dexter. If she actually had evidence on her, I could believe him considering killing her because the first rule of the code is "don't get caught", which was intentionally there to give him wiggle room.
But they had absolutely zero evidence on him whatsoever. The most they could do is have his real name exposed, but they had no chance in hell of him ever getting convicted.
