I saw Supes last night and I just finished Fantastic Four. Superman over FF has:

>better action
>more funny moments (thanks Krypto)
>better music
>is actually engaging
In comparison, FF is boring, the first half is paced so bizzarely (some scenes linger on for too long while the cuts between some other secnes is jarring and gave me whiplash at times). The plot is extremely boring and predictable. There are zero (0) times I laughed at anything. It's simply the worse movie.
Superman has some flaws too:
>most of the time the CGI looks bad (FF also suffers from this greatly, but in Superman it was more apparent)
>some scenes like the cuts to the guy sipping coffee or eating icecream or whatever the fuck he was doing while the big lizard was attacking the city felt weird and pointless
>there is, at points, too much verbal exposition
>it is played off as a gag, but Jimmy Olsen being idolized and wanted by every woman in existence is just fuckin retarded
Superman is better than The Fantastic Four and the numbers at the Romanian box office will prove it

The space sequence is stunning, especially when they escape from Silver Surfer. I also enjoyed Galactus entering earth. Superman on paper has more dynamic scenes in bigger quantity, but the CGI is bad most of the time, the shots don't linger and the flying scenes lose their sense of wonder because of the lenses they used and bad FX. I also don't like the lightning, I know they were going for a cartoony feel, buy instead of being vibrant, it feels like a CW show, sans the pocket dimension segment, I loved that part.

ah, I see now what you meant by spectacle. yes, I agree. the only similar scene to the FF running from the Silver Surfer I can think of in Superman was him trying to get out of the antiproton river while holding the baby, but the CGI looked so shit that I wasn't invested at all. I do think that in general the lenses were used to create a more "grounded" and "realistic" feel, same as the Peacemaker show, and I prefer that to how FF did most of their shots. but in terms of visual spectacle, which in fairness kinda has to be carried by the CGI in films like this, FF is indeed better

I don't think it outsold Superman and Batman, but the Jimmy Olsen book was very popular in the late '50s and early '60s. It was launched because of the successful syndicated Superman TV series in which Jimmy often got more screen time than the hero. Kids could relate to Jimmy who was always screwing up and getting in trouble. There was even talk of an Olsen spin-off series for TV; that's how popular the character was.
