More like being statutorily raped when you’re young and naive can fuck you up especially when you have a bad upbringing and the 50s didn’t allow you to express yourself in a manner that would give you the help you need otherwise you were seen as a fag

it's pretty common to still live at home at that age in my culture, in fact you can do it up until the age of 35 before people start to ask questions.

he's just a sociopath.

he knowingly stole a guys identity who he was responsible for dying.

he got his job by getting a guy drunk and then lying the next day that he hired him.

his job was getting people to smoke cigarettes, pretty evil shit.

his wife was just a trophy and he didnt really give a shit about her.

he lived in a normal NY suburb.

he literally didnt love his kids.

also he wasnt religious at all, big red flag for a guy born in like 1928 or w/e

literally just a sociopath

Did you watch the show past season 1, anon or did you get filtered. It’s not hard to understand why Don hated his idyllic life. He was constantly running away because he hated himself. He hated how he grew up, who he was raised by, his name…Then when he becomes Don Draper it’s even more empty and hollow because nothing is truly his. The life he’s created for himself is nothing but a facade. Deep down he’ll always be the poor little farm boy who watched his father die in front of him and who was raised in a whore house. He can’t get over himself. That’s why the Hershey presentation is so great in the later seasons.

>I was an orphan. I grew up in Pennsylvania, in a whorehouse.
I read about Milton Hershey and his school In "coronet" magazine or some other crap the girls left by the toilet. And I read that some orphans had a different life there. I could picture it. I dream't of it-- Of being wanted. Because the woman who was forced to raise me would look at me every day like she hoped I would disappear. Closest I got to feeling wanted was from a girl who made me go through John's pockets while they screwed. If I collected more than a dollar, she'd buy me a hershey bar. And I would eat it alone in my room with great ceremony feeling like a normal kid. It said "sweet" on the package. It was the only sweet thing in my life.

The entire program is an anti-white screed, isn't it? It's a fancy humiliation ritual. None of the characters are any sort of realistic or are their "interactions" or "motivations" You can identify this because nearly all shows are an anti-white screed.

She did not gain a bunch of muscle. I've seen GLOW, she's just skinny, if she had exercised properly, i.e ACTUALLY gained muscle to offset her fat loss than she would have looked much better.

I think all three of these oversimplify things

Don is an opportunist and a liar for sure but the show never judges him or makes him spiral further into villainy. Anna forgives him for taking her late husband's identity and they become best friends. Arguably the worst thing he does is unintentionally cause the suicides of Adam and Pryce.

Weiner is definitely deconstructing the idealized view of the 50s era family / prosperity but he seems to like Don and view him as a vehicle for describing how unfulfilling and hollow one of the most glamorous american institutions was despite everything. The show itself tells us Happiness is a moment before you want more happiness in the Lucky Strike pitch and Dow Chemical meeting so I think its less about how success is fleeting and more how life in general will never live up to the ideal you set for yourself

I think the interpretation of madmen as a Judaic snarl against WASPs is seriously reaching and the show is deeply sympathetic to mid century white westerners
