Pretty obscure kino there anon. I saw it at the Toronto film fest’s “midnight madness” showcase waaaaay back in the day. Same year (I think) they screened Tetsuo Body Hammer. Both are b-movie schlock (Tokyo Decadence is basically Cinemax soft porn s&m flick) wrapped in Japanese aesthetics and pseudo-philosophy (like amine Arkira, Ghost in the Shell from the same time), that give it an outsider coolness. I don’t even think you can find either film in digital form, lucky if you can find a hard copy.

Japan's indie ppl inherited a failed socialist experiment of the early 70s, punk rock scene of mid-80s. They knew where they stood & wanted to say/mean sth even if they made schlock (that had to get eyeballs in the 1st place.)

Japan has a long history of porn. Those wooden blocks had exaggerated fukking already.
