What do you think of Godzilla? Which era is your favorite and what are the best ones no one talks about?

Only seen a few of em

Original - Can't remember if it was good. Not a good sign.
The Return of Godzilla 1984 - My fave of the ones i've seen. Adorable miniatures and effects. Good music.
Shin Godzilla - It was ok i guess. Was funny that Anno literally just re-used all the shots, framing, editing, dialogue, and music from Evangelion. Fuck the japanese are lazy.
Godzilla minus 1 - One of the worst things i've ever seen.

I've seen all including the anime and the Netflix crap. Love the millennium, love the showa. The heisei and the reiwa eras you can take it or leave it

>What do you think of Godzilla?
Love that motherfucker like you wouldn't believe.
>Which era is your favorite
Heisei because I grew up on it and nostalgia is a bitch. Is Reiwa technically shaping up better? Sure, fine, but I don't have to be objective and specific about why I like the big radioactive lizard who I have several well worn VHS copies of.
>and what are the best ones no one talks about?
Honestly there's not a lot that don't get a mention for what they are outside of really obscure stuff like the Zone Fighter episodes featuring him. He's pretty well defined by now for which films you're going to like if you're in which mood.

It's all camp but the big cheese is the 60s and 70s movies. Pure fun. Godzilla is treated like a superhero instead of the dark gritty anti hero like the other ones

There is exactly one anime featuring Godzilla that's worth your time and it's the one where he fights Hatsuni Miku who's in a transforming train.

Original Godzilla Vs Mechagodzilla is based.
>pretending to be Godzilla and causing terror when Godzilla had became good
>brutally killing Godzilla’s friend in disguise

Hey, hey. He just broke his jaw.

There's only one Godzilla who onscreen killed an Anguirus and it's the real deal!

Godzilla didnt really become a hero until Godzilla vs Hedorah in 1971. he reluctantly helps in King Ghidorah, but every other 60s hes either an antagonist or put in a position where he fights other monsters

Heisei is the best because its basically a perfect blend of everything Godzilla.
>Good effects
>Every movie is connected to each other, one big story
>Uses classic and new monsters
>Tones down on the cheese but still doesnt go grimdark or edgy
>To me has the most iconic monster designs

Vs Ebriah is much more heroic because he actively saves the girl thanks to the original script being intended for King Kong, but even if you wanted to discount that he's purely heroic in Son of Godzilla and Destroy All Monsters, outside of the mind control in the latter.

theres a Godzilla channel on youtube always streaming live. they may not have all of them though.
I haven't seen many Godzilla movies but recently saw Godzilla 2000 and it was kino.
the older Godzilla movies are more cheesy, and the original Godzilla movie was more serious.

There's no film post Ghidorah when he's the antagonist outside of being mind controlled.

>Invasion of the Astro Monsters
Mind controlled into being evil, switches sides to stopping King Ghidorah again and doesn't attack anyone outside of it.
>Ebirah, Horror of the Deep
Purely heroic, crushes not just the monster but the evil organization and specifically does not harm a protagonist.
>Son of Godzilla
Purely heroic who puts aside his nature to be a single adoptive father.
>Destroy all Monsters
Mind controlled into being evil, then defeats Ghidorah and the aliens when its broken and goes off to live peacefully on his island.
>All monsters Attack(Probably better known as Godzillas Revenge)
Didn't fucking happen.
Then came Hedora.

in Ebirah he still fights Mothra at the end, he doesnt attack the bad guys because theyre bad its just what he does.
Son of Godzilla is also pretty much out of his own and Minalla's interest.
Destroy All Monsters takes place in the future

Godzilla is based. But only the Jap ones. The American ones have been stinkers so far. So pretty much every era. But if I had to pick? Godzilla vs Destoroyah. That one for me is peak kino.

>he doesnt attack the bad guys because theyre bad its just what he does.
No? He was rather cheesed about their specific actions, he wasn't just stomping it because it happened to be a building in his vicinity. It was very personal. Yeah he tries to attack Mothra, but only because the script rewrote her from being the giant Condor's who attacked Kong earlier-I mean because he was being a dick.

>Son of Godzilla is also pretty much out of his own and Minalla's interest.
You cannot spin "The interest of this small child he just saved and is now looking after" as non-heroic when it ends on them hugging. Come on.

>Destroy All Monsters takes place in the future
This is either brilliant or really dumb considering the "In every other 60's" line you said.

Don't know which one.

I know basically nothing about Godzilla, except the casual layer

I watched Godzilla 97 first, well knowing that it's its own shit, so it doesn't count
Saw Godzilla 14 and didn't like it one bit.
The human part was boring af and you don't get o have all the action in the background if your human non action stuff is boring. Also I hated that Godzilla was clearly modeled on a bear.

Then I saw Minus One, which was not bad at all.

Then I casually went back to the first one, the original, and holy shit I loved it!!!

I'm completely uninterested in campy and/or superheroic version of Godzilla. And I'm completely uninterested in the current Monsterverse, or whatever it's called

Love it to pieces.

Showa, the Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla movies are just so movie.
>what are the best ones no one talks about?
I don't think that really applies, it's one other similarity it shares with the Bond franchise that everything is talked about with even the weaker entries having their charms.
