My favorite thing about this fossil is how they got incompetent Mexicans to extract and transport it from the quarry it was found. It broke into a thousand pieces. Some poor guy had to spend years piecing it back together.

i went to the natural history museum in LA (at USC) like two days before i moved out of that violent shithole and i must say that is one amazing collection of dinosaur bones and megafauna. all the good and big ones you'd want are there, the only thing they were deficient in was they had a single, small pterosaur skeleton only and cave bear skulls but no full skeletons.

off the top of my head they had:
several t-rexes, an allosaur, a carnotaur, two triceratops, a diplodocus, a stegosaur, mosasaurs, plesiosaurs, a pachycephalosaurus, some duckbills, a mammoth, a dire wolf, tiny camels, a giant camel, toed minihorses, a sabertooth cat, a giant turtle, an enteledont, a fin whale, a couple hominids. totally worth the visit.

Bit out of the way, but if you're ever in Montana go to the Museum of the Rockies
>5 (FIVE) Tyrannosaurus skulls and two mounted skeletons (one bronze)
>Dozens of Triceratops skull from every growth stage
>Big Al from the Walking with Dinosaurs Ballad of Big Al
>assorted Sauropods
>Ankylosaurus head and tail club
>Pachycephalosaurus
>Edmontosaurus
>Plesiosaurus
>Deinonychus
>great dioramas
>new wing in construction, to be opened soon
>Currently has Sue the T. rex, one of the biggest and most complete rexes ever. Non-permanent exhibit though.

I find that most dinosaur museums are worth the visit because ticket prices are like $20 max, and as a dinosaur nerd I could spend hours reading everything. Montana also has the dinosaur trail which is like a road trip where you could visit all the dino museums in Montana and get a free T-shirt, but it's not worth it lol. Museum of Rockies has the most fossils compared to the rest.

It’s Borealopelta FYI, and was found by a miner working for an oil company, which hired a Paleo-monitor beforehand to oversee any potential fossils and acquired the specimen. (A very common event in mining and construction)
Also fun detail, Borealopelta is one of the few dinosaurs we know the color of. It’s scales preserved pigment cell shapes, which could be observed under an electron microscope and we can determine the color based on the shape/density of the melanosomes.

It would’ve been countershaded with a reddish-orange back and a white underbelly. Countershaded like a deer which tells us it still experienced predation despite weighing one ton and having impressive armor.
