How does this compare to the movie? I wasn't too impressed by it, creepy Godfather-voice kid aside.

It sucks. The movie is based/10 and if I had to, I would rank it higher than The Sopranos, but the series is to the film what the American Animal Kingdom is to the Australian original. It's defanged and pregant with the cliches of the caper-of-the-week to keep up ratings.

It's dark as fuck, a main character dies literally every episode

the movie take a wider view at the problem, including more sides while the series is mostly from the pov of few gangsters. The first seasons are great, but the quality decrease a lot in the last seasons. Plot stopped making sense.
