There used to be a lot of hyperviolent anime and it's stupid how even the best Berserk adaptations tone the gore down a lot. At this point, there will never be an adaptation that faithfully recreates the manga's tone.

I just started the manga. It's real good. Got the next 4 volumes coming from different libraries. Some kind of lsrge special editions.

The prototype version of the Berserk was the best. Everything was more grounded. Miura ruined the story with the high fantasy bull crap and wrote himself into a corner. There's no way for Guts to defeat Griffith without some major Macguffin asspull.
