>>213089508 (OP) It’s pretty much impossible to keep secrets in the digital age, if you’re an ass, the chances are you being caught in the act are higher now than before
The problem is that Anger made these up. Its hard to tell whats true and what was something created for guys tell each other in a bar. When tell all books became a thing then it was all over because the story was more interesting than the truth. I always think of baseball legend Ty Cobb who people believed (including Ken Burns) had murdered someone and was the biggest racist in sports just because of one book which had no sources to back it up.
>>213089508 (OP) well there is a story I heard about Patton Oswalt and some sleeping pills

>>213090142 That's what I was talking about though, made up, almost schoolyard rumors and urban myths, there don't seem to be many anymore. Anger was brilliant with this book, everything is so over the top but just believable enough to work.

They did Fatty Arbuckle dirty and they got away with it because he was fat and looked weird.

Thats the thing though if you acknowledge it then you give it more exposure but if you ignore it then they say you are hiding. Some things are too outlandish to be true like silent star Clara Bow supposedly had sex with a horse. It seems pretty obvious that because her image was sold on here sex appeal that the rumour mill just went to the most extreme position. Then there are rumours which come from friends or associates which are hard to dismiss such as Kirk Douglas raping Natalie Wood or mafia involvement in stars careers (which was more widespread than anyone thought). DNA tests have made it easier to prove or disprove adultery accusations. I think Warren Harding had one of the first tell all books from a mistress of a president (who supposedly had a daughter with him). The mistress was derided as a fraud but a decade ago they proved with a dna test that she was telling the truth.
Actually that was a big thing during the so called golden age of america. Look up the Evelyn Nesbit scandal which had a rich man date raping a underage girl and making her his partner. People were up in arms about this around 1900 and this continued a cycle where powerful and elite were accused of abusing young girls. Certainly this extended to hollywood (which the public full believed was corrupt from the early days) and was confirmed as true by every star in their older years.
