Every fucking day I'm in awe of this trilogy, the simple setup, the simple hero's journey, meet with heroes, "destroy the ring", take the journey, change the world, its goddamn perfect, its about time for another rewatch soon, but god I wish they still made trilogies like this, everything went right for LOTR, this is the definition of good cinema

Is there a novelization of the movie, I'd buy it in a second.

it has to be said that the third act is a little weak, but its basically the finest trilogy ever made. I even rate it above the first three star wars films.

The first one was notoriously better. A lot of cheating and cutting corners on the two sequels. PJ himself somewhat confesses that on the behind the scenes production movies.

1 > 2 > 3
3 is the weakest, and despite that it's STILL better than the vast majority of movies that have been released since

The first movie is truly exceptional, it feels genuinely mythical. It's so beautiful and inspiring. Second and third are a little off totally at times and the locations aren't quite as good imo, but there are still some really good parts. Theoden really helps make stuff feel dramatic and emotional

This is probably my favorite scene in the whole trilogy. The way it really zeroes in on the central theme of sacrifice and temptation in this very intimate and sad moment and then Aragorn immediately walks into the sea of oncoming orcs is just so good

You know it's fucking gold when even the stuff they cut from the theatrical editions is better than 99% of your average films these days.

I think PJ was too hard on himself for The Two Towers, especially in its extended edition. It was brilliant.
The third movie, yeah, was spotty. It's another siege movie. I blame Tolkien for that.
