The individual pieces were pretty great. The visuals, the music, the acting. But the sum total of the movie felt bland. And that’s just how it is. The standards for superhero movies are much higher today. Coincidentally this movie really doubled down my feelings on Gunn being a hack. Reed shows the world how to build a worldwide system of teleporter transmitters around the globe, which ever nation somehow constructs in the amount of time it takes Galactus to travel from Jupiter. It’s about being genuine. F4 was a serious movie first with comedy sprinkled in. Like the rest of the early highly successful mcu films. Meanwhile Gunn retrofitted everything to fit his strict tiresome formula of daddy issues and self deprecating irony. Simultaneously I won’t give him brownie points for low common denominator Superman stuff like saving a squirrel and the red trunks. If you’re not dealing with Snyder baggage it’s a painfully average movie with a rough script. And the DCU isn’t going to last long if he doesn’t raise the bar with better visuals and a refined original script, and he can’t rely on Snyder hate forever. There’s a reason his movies haven’t made a billy yet despite the constant critical praise, or that he hasn’t been selected to do an Avengers.

I didn't mind the pacing too much, but the whole second act when they're in space should have been longer, it barely left any room for any one scene to breathe and let the audience immerse themselves in the journey

In the movie though his ship just crushes up the planet to turn it to lava and feeds it to him through the tubes on the back. You dont even see the living stuff. An entire planet is like 99.9999999% planet and shit, the living stuff would be like an imperceptible thin film on top. It shouldnt make any difference with this MCU version.
