Is it me or does LotR lack strong story points?
Entire trilogy can be summed with basically this:

>some stuff happens in the background
Anything more detailed than above and you'd already be getting into trivia only fantasy nerds care about...

But there will be major events in it, plot twists, characters you care about dying etc.
Not just a prolonged introduction to explain kinda contrived magical MacGuffin and a long walk to destroy it.

Those 2 plot lines make up basically 90% of film plots

Good plots are hard to write and there's a limited number of them, so only the smartest left-brained authors successfully write good original plots (whodunnit authors like agatha christie, arthur conan doyle, scifi authors like isaac asimov, ray bradbury, horror authors like poe, lovecraft).

For right-brained authors, plots aren't important and it's all about themes, subtext, and ambiguous scenarios the reader is meant to elucidate on their own.
This is what people mean when they say you lack media literacy, you need to take English courses to learn how to analyze these things in a meticulous way. They're not inferior, but they take more effort to understand and as such can feel more rewarding.
