Ok so why do people hate this movie again? I rewatched it just now for the first time since 2013 and it's a fine little sci-fi movie. Easily the best Alien movie after Alien and Aliens. My only gripe with it is that some characters could have used a bit more development (the Asian dude and the white guy who are Idris Elba's assistants for example) and the ending feels a bit rushed, the movie could have easily benefited from an additional 20 minutes or so. I guess some people where disappointed in the lack of the Xenomorph but we've already seen it so much, the mystique is gone, the universe feels richer and bigger without it's presence. The one gripe I can understand is maybe that the Engineers ruins the mystery of the space jockey.

it makes you think you're about to watch a comfy investigation of a creepy abandoned space outpost but then a magic hologram appears that shows them exactly what happened to the place.

It's just a string of shittily motivated character actions interspersed with stupid decisions embedded in a framework of highly implausible premises. But the production design and vfx are great. As is the casting.

Honestly I'm not sure people do anymore, most of the discussions about it are positive these days.

I think it was the first big victim of ENDING EXPLAINED slop cinemasins type nitpick youtube garbage. People are starting to watch it again after having gotten tired of that retarded lens of viewing movies and are seeing that it's good.

I liked seeing it in theaters even though everyone told me it wasn't good because of some nerd shit lore from the previous films and people were expecting intelligent characters in a sci-fi horror movie. It was kino.

That sounds like a copout to me. The movie is pretty clearly implying that the Space Jockey and the Engineers are the same species. The movie respects your intelligence enough to come to that conclusion, it doesn't need John Prometheus to turn to the camera and talk about how his buddy crash landed on a moon while carrying a cargo of alien eggs years ago before ripping David's head of and killing Weyland.

The pace was insane. They could have taken things out and slowed down and it would have been a better movie.

"Jean-Luc Picard" is inexplicably a bong and Blade Runner world is under chink dominance. It's the oldest way to project what the future will be like in the book.

Being pseud is worse than not making the attempt in the first place.
If you don't understand this, you have an autistic insensitivity to having your intelligence insulted.
This movie's overwhelming tone is pseud. Ridley Scott's attempts to inject religious and mythical themes into a franchise that is already loaded with subtexts not only failed but were a stupid idea in the first place.
This is on top of the usual complaints which are mostly also true, but this is why the most neurotypical /tv/tards strongly dislike it.

I don't think the idea of having a deeply religious character going on an expedition to find humanity's creator is a bad idea. It's an interesting character conflict.

I agree, if the character had shown any depth it would have given the movie a chance to be good. Instead she came across as a fucking retard being clobbered over and over by a loosely connected series of super theme-y disasters

I haven't watched Alien Covenant so I can't speak for that movie but I thought David came of as a lot more ambiguous in Prometheus rather than downright evil. Like when he infects Holloway he asks him what he would do to find out the truth of the Engineers and he replies with "anything" or when David decides to help Shaw at the end and goes along with her plan of going to the Engineer homeworld. To me he never came of as downright evil or spiteful to humans.

>Ok so why do people hate this movie again?
1) It's not an Alien movie. It's marketed and promised as that, but was a bait and switch just to get asses in seats.
2) It's full of empty mystery boxes. It promises a fulfilling adventurous story, presents a lot of intriguing questions, then never answers a thing, not even in the sequel.
3) By itself, it is an unfinished mess. Due to it's false premise of being tied to Alien, it's set on a very boring and bland barren rock planet that's not interesting on screen. A generic group of unmemorable nobodies shows up expecting to find literal God, get depressed because they just found mortal aliens instead, they bumble around and fuck shit up before all dying due to their own faults, then wake up Prometheus who chimps out and kills them for no reason presented by the movie. The audience is left with this takeaway: There was no point to watch this imbecilic trip as it didn't go anywhere. The sequel, which could have made up for the shortfalls of Prometheus, just veers off wildly into its own thing being a basic bitch Ridley Android movie.

Yes, his head was torn off. Shaw put him back together, but he is broken and malfunctioning now. He believes he will be the perfect creator better than humans and engineers. But he can't even realize that he's misattributing poems to the wrong authors. He can't understand that he has gone insane, murderous and his actions are wrong.

To be fair, the sequel was gonna be way different until the studio got cold feet because people wanted more Xenomorphs so they had to retool it to both be a classic Alien movie and a sequel to Prometheus. iirc the original idea was for it to be a trilogy and the second movie wasn't gonna feature the xenomorphs either.
